what are the steps to painting interior dash and doors?
i have a 94 accord that i want to paint the interior on so i can take to car shows. right now its black and gray. im not sure what are the exact steps on doing that. ive taken the dash apart b4 so thats no problem. what size of sand paper should i use? type of paint? primer needed? steps? and also im not sure what color to go with. my car paint is burgundy with chrome wheels, and white decals. any suggestions? im confused
DONT SAND....i did the mistake of sanding some of my interior came out bad....all i did my second time around was clean the parts really really well then use SEM paint and it came out good
thanks for the advice...do u guys have any pics of your dash after painting it with SEM paint? any suggestions as to what color i should paint it?
wait so you dont needa sand/scuff the surface so the paint has something to stick to?
and i was always curious; how authentic does spraying your interior look?...
i always thought about doing it but was always afraid it would look cheap, or fade, or chip/peel, scratch easy. or just plain out not look authentic... anyone?

well from what other ppl have told me, u just need to do several light coats and not rush it. the ones i've seen look pretty clean. my cousin did his car like 2 months ago but without getting any info or knowing about cars, right now it looks good but i want to make sure i do mine the right way because i dont want the paint to fade or peal in a couple months. not sure about the sanding though. my buddy told me to sand but shocker911 said not too. so idk?

oh good advice...how long has it been since you painted your buddys interior with the SEM paint? does it still look good? then burgundy it is...lol...
Vinyl can be scuffed with a fine scotch-brite-type sanding pad to help adhesion. You'd basicly just want to make the vinyl look more dull. Make sure to clean well into the grooves with rubbing alcohol twice. Painting the dash can cause alot of glare on the windshield- the lighter the color the more glare. I did one white ten or so years ago and when it was bright outside I could hardly see the road without good sunglasses.
them sem soap has a mild scuffing agent in it. if you use it according to the direction with the color scothbrite pad it tells you, thats all you need to do for cleaning/scuffing. then they also have a spray cleaner you can use, and they have plastic primers(these basically glue your color to the panel). dont do anything until you contact sem. they can tell you exactly how to do it. ive been to their trainings before, trust me their stuff works if used properly and it looks oem when finished.
