Icon7 Does a turbo affect the lifetime of a honda engine??

I'm new to this automobile modification field! and need your help. I love to install a turbo to my B16A or do a swap with K20 and install turbo. Some of my friends adviced me to not to do cos it will ruin the engine in short time!!!

is this possible? is there a bad impact on the engine or the body of the car if turbo is installed?

it all depends on your ecu tuning and if you can control your right foot.

but it *will* shorten the lifespan on your engine yes......especially if it's stock.

I tend to disagree slightly. Your second point of the lifespan is really dependent upon your first point that you made. There are many Hondas that have had a span of over 120K boosted (I mean from say 20K when it was N/A), but it really was because the owner took the extra time to address heating/cooling issues, proper maintainence, and his ability to drive, just like in a factory turbocharged car, even when stock.

yeah, but 120K is nothing compared to a stock honda engine. most honda engines (if taken care of) have no problem getting into the 300k area and more than a few above 400K, so if it is a big deal to last over 100K boosted, that is quite a bit off the Honda standard.

That 120K is only one example. There are a few 400K boosted turbocharged hondas still around on the stock block. but the owners started working w/ that stock engine in 98-99.
I think we're saying the same thing.. It can be done based upon maintainence like anything else.
