Default Applying clear after paint cured?

I painted my valve cover a couple months ago and didn't spray any clear on it, and now want to spray clear on it. Can I do that? Or will have to get repainted first?

If it's a solid color then wet sand it with 600 and then clear it. If it's metallic then sand it with 600, shoot 1 more coat of the same color, then clear.

Yes that works, You can also use a maroon scuff pad to rough up the surface, then clear it.
