Default MAP issues

So my D16 sandrail is being a PITA right now, it idles good, runs like a raped ape, but when cracking the throttle (around 1000-2000rpms) it hesitates, spits and sputters a bit. I've pretty much nailed it down as a MAP sensor issue, I checked the wiring to the map, it is correct, I changed the MAP to a known good one (no difference), I unplugged the map from the manifold completely, and the hesitation goes away?!?!? what the heck? I have to have a MAP (correct me if I'm wrong). HELP? PLEASE.
