parts identifying from donor mini-me crx
Ok, were taking two crx's and making one. this is our first foray into hondas, so please excuse the stupid questions. ive tried searching, but cant seem to find what im looking for.
the car we're actually building is an 89 crx Si. really good shape except for the seats and the fact that the origonal A6 had a hole in the side of the block big enough to stick my foot in.
so we bought a parts car from asheville thursday noght. thing went into the woods at roughly 70 MPH, and the owner came out with only mild injuries.
(if you need parts, PM me. we'll work something out if e have it and dont need it)
the parts car has a mini-me motor in it. we heard it run, and its in good shape. dunno yet what it was made out of, so ill need help in identifying what we actually have.
anyway, long and short of it is that i need help identifying what i have, and then what to do with it when we put it into our car.
i know we'd like to do the water pump, timing belt, replace the broken timing belt cover, replace the worn out motor mounts, check the valves, and put gaskets in it. so i need to know what to get this stuff from to do it correctly.
also, the PCM (or whatever you honda guys call it). i dont quite know what one is in the parts car. it has d16a6 vtec engraved on the metal casing, so im thinking its one that has been chipped for the one wire vtec. is there any way to confirm what has been done to the PCM, and then a how to on how to wire it? ive found how-to's for the mini-me swap with a p28ecu, but we would like to use what we have since its paid for.
anyway, tell me what you need pictures of, part numbers from, etc so you can help me to identify our growing pile of parts, and figure out what to do with them.
and im gaurenteed to start a build thread, now that we can actually start a build.

pic's would be really nice, and be alittle more specific on ur ?'s. autozone, advanced, napa ,carquest ETC should have all the OE parts u will need
as far as the vtec goes, the only way you can figure out if the ecu has been chipped is to look inside the ecu, remove the cover and the bottom left opposite from the plug side is where usually there would be a chip(some one please confirm this) and as far as the motor goes, i would get a y8 or a z6 head and call it a day, what all do you need as far as parts? do you know or do you need some one to tell you the proper things to get??
This is what ur looking for inside the ECU as far as chips got , i belive this is a p06 chipped for vtec , ive had two of these myself and not a damn one worked right go p28
ok, ill try to be more specific. after re-reading my previous post, it really is rambling and incoherent, for that i apologize.
1. i need help identifying the parts that my mini me was built from. i know basically nothin about honda specific stuff, but i am a longtime corvette and mopar mechanic. technical stuff doesnt scare me, but i dont understand abbreviations and honda specific jargon yet.
pictures of said motor will be up tomorrow. reason i need to know this is to be able to order replacement parts like sensors, gaskets, timing belts, rear main seals, etc. if the parts are fairly universal, please let me know.
2. i need o know what motor mounts, etc that i need to mount this into our 89 crx Si. we will be reusing the Si trans. the mounts and such that came with the parts 90 crx were absolute junk due to the accident.
3. i need to know what wiring i will need to change in the car to use the PCM and motor. the wiring was cut, melted, and trashed due to the wreck, so i have nothing to go off of. again, i will post pics of the PCM tomorrow when my father e-mails them to me. theyre on his camera.
so far, those are the main questions. the goal is to get this motor in the car and have it fire up, idle, run, etc. were going to make it go in clean and leak free as well.
thanks for the info on the chopped PCMs. the screws show no evidence of ever having been out, but that doesnt mean a whole lot/

so my buddy will came by and helped me identify the parts.
PCM is a p28
short block is a d15b2
head and intake is off a d16y8.
will is my commercial parts manager from autozone, so he can source my replacement parts for me.
my remaining questions center around the wiring. how do i get it all to work in my bone stock 89 crx si?
