D series transmission
I just bought an SI tranny from my friend. I need to figure out if its an 88. i read the thread and still have a question about the grooves on the input shaft. are these grooves deep ones? also I had 91 SI tranny. what do i actually need to change to make the 88 fit if infact it is an 88
i think the 89-91 dx/si input shaft is 21 splines.. which means you'll have to have the matching flywheel, axles, and hubs. not sure if you need to change the knuckles.
im bored so here ya go ma friend!

thanks i've looked on there.. but maybe i missed where it says whether i need to change the flywheel. i know i am gonna have to change the clutch/pressure plate.

the rings at the end of the shaft are very apparent. theyre not scratch marks... no rings = 88.
i bought the kit from clutchcityonline that allows you to use a 90+ flywheel. ive heard its an 88 accord clutch disc, but its not. it has a separate part number and perfectly matches the diameter instead of being 1/8" off or something. so just get it thru them, really great customer service and cheapest price i found.
i do recommend resurfacing the flywheel tho. or buying a newer, lighter one. i tried to reuse one and just scotch brite it. usually its ok, but this last time i feel a lot of chatter. i regret not getting it resurfaced while i had it available. new flywheels arent too cheap, but not unreasonable for the convenience and theyre a bit lighter since they give you a newer, lighter 16lb version.

You could also just open up the tranny and swap the input shaft. it's easy and I have a bunch of spares sitting in my garage lol. Then you don't have to buy anything except some Hondabond, but no one can have too much of that.
I have a total of three transmissions with me right now. My old SI that has bad bearings, the DX that is in my car right now that has a bad input shaft bearing, and the 88 SI that i just picked up.
