Default Rod bearing clearance issue

I started assembling my Ls block yesterday and ran into some rod bearing clearance issue. I am using Acl Duraglide bearings. Now #1 and 2 clyinder checked out fine at .001. But i am having trouble with the # 3 and 4 bearings. #4 has way too much clearance it was between .003-.002. Than #3 was way to tight it was over .001 to the point where i couldnt spin the crank because of it. Now my rods have been reconditioned because i'm using ARP rodbolts.

I was thinking of switching over to Oem bearings but didnt really have a clue on choosing the right color clearances? Can any give me some insights on it i really appreaciate it thanks.

You should take the crank and rods to a machine shop and have the measure the crank journals and the ID of big end of the rod then report the results back here or PM me and I will help you to determine the proper bearing based on your desired clearance.

I read my crank and it says B2 and my rods all have #3 stamped on it.

I followed the chart so that should be the green bearings? Do you think me running ARP rodbolts will throw my clearance off to run a different color bearing??

Did the crank ever get polished or machined? Were the rods reconditioned?

Post Re: Rod bearing clearance issue

I have assembled a few b-series blocks (50-100), and I have never had rod bearing clearances vary that much. There may be a problem with your crank and/or rods. When I run into clearances that are suspect, I take it to the experts at a machine shop and let them tell me what is wrong. They have all of these cool measuring gizmos and love to use them.

is it possible for me to switch bearings around? seeing how #3 clearance is too tight and #4 is on the loose end, maybe that make up the difference?

switch bearings around came out with the same results. Looks like me crank and rods are taking a trip to the machine shop!!
