front sway bar 90 si
hi, i have a 1990 civic si that i race in autocross events in h-stock class. i currently have a neuspeed 22mm front sway bar, but would like to try an even stiffer bar. the only larger bar that i have found is a tanabe 25.4 mm bar (tsb026f). i was wondering if anyone was familiar with that bar, and if anyone knows if the bar is a direct fit item not requiring any modifications for my 1990 si civic.---also, are there any other choices for a larger bar other than the tanabe? thanks!!! jeff hs22
yeah, usually people opt for a stiffer rear bar to help the car rotate in turns but like 90 EX Civic said it all depends on the rest of your suspension setup.
i've got race valved konis that have ben modified by the factory with a lengthened damper rod, plus i've replaced EVERY suspension and steering part in the car with new oem parts. i run 225 v710 fronts and 205 v710 rears. rotation isn't a problem at all and can be achieved by tire pressure adjustments and/or alignment settings. i'd just like to try a bit more bar up front as i'm still trying to compensate for stock front spring rates and i'm still getting quite a bit of body lean/roll. is anyone familiar with any fsb that is more rigid than the 22mm neuspeed thanks, jeff hs22

Jeff, jeff, jeff.... were have i heard that name before, and have seen that setup...... hmm.....
is this jeff, the same jeff that has a white si hatch? if it is it's me toubee. the guys with the 4 door civic. i ran csp at fingers lake. im pretty sure it's you with that crazy *** tire witdh for a 5" wide rim, lol.
but to answer your question, it would be best to try in the road race/autocross forum section of honda-tech. more help there for autocross purpose's, and do PM Solo-X. he's the guy i asked for advice on the H stock setup, and could give you better advice.
regardless on this forum or on rr/ax, there just isnt that many options for a front swaybar because in most classes, theres no restriction and its better to bump up the rear than the front. the setup becomes much different when you can use wider tires and whatnot anyway.
i just dont think you could find anything stiffer or still NEED anything stiffer than the ST 22mm behemoth of a front swaybar.

that's what i'm guessing too. and like i said before, he's running stock class, can't touch the rear bar.

I ran a 22mm DA Integra front bar on my EF for Stock class, and I can't say I'd have wanted to go any bigger. While a huge front bar definitely helps with camber control up front, it also makes it more difficult to put power down because you end up lifting the inside front wheel more easily - which is why it's preferable to bump up the coil spring rates rather than the sway bar rate when increasing roll stiffness in ST/SP/etc.
well damn, you just reminded me.
the DA bar DOES fit the EF. however its 23mm, but HOLLOW. so its really not much stiffer than a 19mm solid bar i tried back to back.
BUT, im reminded that suspension techniques makes a DA swaybar set and the FRONT bar is 15/16", or 23.8mm! so it should still fit the EF. so there you go...

thanks, i'll check it out----also, idon't seem to suffer from corner exit wheelspin as much as might be expected due to the "customized-lengthened" race shocks that result in giving the car approx. 2 1/2" of droop--consequently allowing both front wheels to remain on the pavement during transitions even with the current 22mm neuspeed bar installed. without these shocks, i would definately think that corner exit traction could be a huge problem. thanks again, jeff 22hs
hi toubee,{yeah, it's me} how's it going? thanks for the tip, i'll try the road race/autocross forum section. i signed up for the pa states--are you going? and running in h-stock???!!!! i think kevin mcilvain is going to co-drive my civic--that dude is fast--maybe he can help a little with the car set-up!!
yeah, i'll be there at state's.
edit* in H Stock. traded the HX for a set of Crx alloys. was a heart break to lose those wheels, cause im broke

for the third time, he's in stock class.
and even if he didn't have the custom shocks, he's running a 225 tire. you might not think that to be to big, but he's running a 14x5" rim. so going with the way the side wall rolls straight ( you should see the car run) he's got a lot of rubber there before one of the front tires pic up.

You apparently don't know how a sway bar works.
If he didn't have the additional droop travel, he'd definitely be lifting the inside front wheel. I know. I've been autocrossing these cars for years in various classes.

yeah it would have, but it would have been nice to have a decent set of rims for a DD. driving on steelies all the time makes the car look even more beat.
