What year Transmissions will work for my car
I have a 1994 civic Dx with a D16Y8. I think the owner before me when they did the motor swap left the original 1.5l non vtec tranny in. What transmissions should bolt right in?
The Dx tranny Went to crap today so I need to find one just dont know what ones to look for would kinda want a better one then the dx tranny.

really depends on what your using the car for honestly..
me ive got a daily driver..with basic bolt ons.. nothing more.. so i use a long gear d15 dx non-vtec trans.

Looking for somthing alittle more sporty then the dx but at this point Ill take what I can get. So any 1994 to 00 Civic and Del Sol tranny should work as long as it has a 1.6l?
only two things that it must be.
1. Hydraulic (not cable)
2. Must be from a D-Series Motor (any SOHC Honda)
remember must be HYDRO not CABLE
si trans seems to be good.

might as well grab a si trans man. if you want more accel. if you plan to go boost youll much rather a long gear or del sol to save gas and keep your boost going so your not shifting every 3 seconds lol.
LOL Dont really plan on getting boost. Its just a little bit of slim pick'ins for a Si tranny around here Ex is mostly what ive been finding.
Tomarrow I go and pick up a tranny out of a 1995 Civic Ex that had a 1.5 Vtec. Im getting it for 100 bucks This tranny should work right? I read this and was thinking that It wont be a direct bolt in since mine is the D16Y8
All 1.6 and 1.5 tranny's will work on 1.5 and 1.6 blocks Zc trannys will work on engines that can support the necessary mid-shaft.
-Zc trannys use different inner axle joints from all the other boxes.
-Y8 (96-00)trannys have steel shift forks, Z6 (92-95) have cast aluminum shift forks, The Ef chassis Civic's&CRX have cast aluminum.

ex's didnt come with 1.5's btw, it will still work but be shitty like the 1 u had
5gen's ex is the same as si(eh3), dx(ej2)=shitty. they are all s20; but stamped A000 instead of B000(dx). but the real y8 tranny is a bit better...

yea the ej1 only came with the 1.6 vtec motor.
but its about the only thing youve found huh? just grab it man...if you cant find the one you want..
OP might as well keep his tranny if its in a good condition cause that upgrade is worthless, its not even an upgrade...
Crap Its another Dx Tranny lol Well I guess it would be worth it for 100 and not having to have the car on blocks any longer lol. It was either that or a Del Sol tranny that when your cruzin in a parking lot in second somtimes she jumps out of gear dosnt make any sounds just jumps out he wanted 150. He said it was a 1995 honda civic 2 door with a 1.5 Vtec and it was a Ex. I looked this up and it says there was a ex in 1995 but it had a 1.6 so I was all mixed up lol
But it will still be the crapy DX tranny like I had that came with the 1.5 non vtec man that does suck lol
