Default Hello, Folks! 1990 Civic Si Driver Here...

Can't find an intro section, and I'm not allowed to post in the General Discussion forum (?), so here I am..

I've owned a '90 Si for about 11yrs now, and I recently got back to finishing the restore/upgrade. I figured I'd stop in here and say hi to the folks that have helped me a few times over the years. So... thanks all... and hello.

I love this car...I always have.
I bought a mint B16 for her about 4 years ago, a WW RS body kit, some wheels/tires, headlights, tail lights, new springs, shocks, etc.
I wanted to give her a little makeover for the 130k mostly trouble-free miles she'd given me ... she deserved it!
Well, I had it in this guys garage (he was supposed to paint it, etc.) and he completely ripped me off. He stole my welder, 2 motors, tools, part of my body kit, etc. etc. He even stole a couple parts off the b16 that was in my car. Then he vanished. I mean, he moved... with my stuff.
Anyway... the car quit on me 3yrs ago, and I kinda gave up. I was so pissed after losing all this stuff and then having motor trouble that I parked the poor girl and let her sit for the past 3+yrs.
Everybody in my family tried to get me to sell her, but I couldn't.
Soo... I trailered it to my new house last week.
It took me 2 evenings to get her running (timing belt needed replaced, no fuel(F'in main relay), and the dist. rotor shaft was melted and firing on #2 at tdc...wtf?)
Anyway, she purrs like a kitten now, and today I gutted the car completely and cleaned her all up. I ordered the body parts i need, and various other things, and I'm gonna try to prep her for paint in the next couple weeks.

She'll be back.

The EF is god..

:D

I will certainly try to keep you all up to date.
I've been excited about this build for a while, but I'm getting more excited every day (especially after hearing her run again...)

Here's a quick pic... right after unloading her in my yard.
Dirty girl, for sure.... but i still love her.

and here's the powerplant..

I'll try to post a couple pics tomorrow of her all cleaned up (and interior stripped).

Long live the EF. This is and has always been my favorite Honda civic and I have owned every gen of civic minus the 05 and up.

im pretty much in the process of getting my EF back together too, there were two bolts that were broken inside the front right engine mount and for about 4 months ive been driving a pos '93 celica, yeah it's a good running car, but it's not fun, its bulky, it eats up gas unnecesarily, (2.2L at 130 hp..) and most importantly of all, theres no V-TEC, like in my EF so i decided to tap out the two mother f***ers that are stopping me from driving it, right now my ef is sitting on stands and tomorrow me and my dad are gonna see if we can put it back together and get it back into driving condition!

It makes tucked engine bays look better. That's about it though.

Well thank you all for the comments.

Ha ha.. I don't like it, either. What happened here was that I didn't have something tight (can't remember if it was the battery or the intake), and I hit a bad bump and the battery arc welded the dam intake to the hood. I ripped the intake pipe out and put the filter directly on the manifold just for dust protection until I figured something out with the intake pipe.

and the spark plug wires dont flow, makes it have a bit mcdonalds look to it.
Couldn't agree more. I had all black ones, but one went bad and these yellow ones were free at the time. lol..

but lose the bodykit.ha
I love this body kit. One of the few I really like.

I'm thinking I want to paint this car Cobalt Blue metallic. I've always liked dark blue.
Hopefully, I'll get some time to work on her today...

Oh, and welltal89 good luck with your EF, too!

Some people use black tape around the section of the intake that could potentially make contact with the battery terminal.

I'm so ashamed. Another 2 years and she's still not on the road.

I guess there's no hurry when you work all the time, have 5 other vehicles... and a baby.

I'm halfway there, tho! The engine sounds great (fired right up), I got some cheap 99 Si wheels, and she's fully primed.
I installed a new 4-1 header this morning. (f'in cross members).
So as soon as I get the new title (lost the old one), I'm gonna start driving her to work in primer like a ghetto rat. :D
Putting her up on the stands, I was surprised to see almost no rust. The bottoms of these cars were pretty well coated.

All that cleaning, sanding, and body work up top was a major bitch, tho..

Little update, I guess. Almost another year.... lol..

I've found that a 22yr old car needs a lot of random stuff fixed before you can even begin to work on the stuff you really want to work on. The list was quite long. :D

Anyway, I decided not to paint it blue. I went with a red ss urethane. It didn't turn out bad, but not as good as I would have liked. There are a couple of spots I'll probably go back over.
I also got all the new carpet installed (what a bitch), and put the full interior back in.
It's registered/tagged/insured/inspected now as well, so I've been driving her again.

A lot better than when I started.

Thanks, guys.
It's funny. The body kit thing seems to go either way with people. Either like it or don't. This is one of the few kits I liked.

Here's as close as I have. My next step is molding. I have some donor doors with really good rubber bits, but I'm also going to sand and repaint the hard parts black again.

Na dont do that!!! 2 tone civics look cheap. A lot of dx's came with like sky blue paint and grey trim and covers. I think it looks great in red, SOLID red. just my opinion......

Haha. My wife loved it sitting in the yard. In fact, she told me every week. lol..
She's thrilled now that it's on the road, though, for real. She even offered to sew up my seat and clean/armor-all the dash.
Bitch still calls it a geo metro, though....just to get under my skin.

It will stay solid for the most part. The only thing I'm gonna repaint black are the pillars and the window edging (hard parts). Probably semi-gloss. Then I'm going to replace the rubber seals on the doors.
Basically, it will stay exactly like it is now, except all the crappy looking parts around the doors will be black again instead of primer, flaky paint, and masking residue.
Oh, and the door handles need cleaned up and armor-alled or something.
