moroso oil pan leaks
I've got a moroso pan on my lsvtec that i bought off my roommate. He tried 2-3 new oem honda gaskets and could never get it to seal. Now its in my car and i cant take this oil leak ANY more. I noticed once that all the bolts and nuts were loose so i thought that would take care of it. Not sure if they are backing out again or what but the whole underside of my car is coated with mobil1
What are you guys using to seal these? Aftermarket gasket? None at all? A liquid compound? What should i be torquing to ? oem specs?/
Please help, THANK YOU!

drain your oil, take off the pan, clean both surfaces nicely with brake clean. Get a new gasket, and some manus-bond, and seal that bitch up. Tighten it to spec.
I did this and my moroso never leaked again.
word of advice, Manus-Bond is not like silicone....it is like paste. That gasket will not be reusable. In fact, some things at work, we have to use a torch to heat up the manus bond to get it off.
anyway, this is what I did...and it worked for weeks (until I sold the car, I'm sure it is still holding up)

I had the same problem all last year...X2 on the cleaning with brake clean get some hondabond from the dealer and put a nice layer on...Havent had one drop yet this season...
x2 take off oil pan, let it drain, clean it real good scrape anything off, clean the block off with thinner, make sure you look at your oil pan its all even. mine and a dip in it and had to be tossed.I used felpro gasket from autozone works like a charm!!!! not one single drop. and make sure you follow the sequence.

do not use no gasket maker or hondabond....moroso specifically tells you not to use that get a gasket!!

mine leaked at first as well. just like above, i cleaned everything, got a new honda gasket, applied honda bond to both sides of the gasket and the bolt holes, no more leaks.
this is the ONLY PERSON who said it right.
Do not use anythinig be sure the surface is spotless. I have never had a leak on my moroso oil pan and i had it on the same motor well over a year. every so often i would check the studs and bolts to be sure they were still torqued whenever i would do an oil change. Not one leak.

I also do not have any leaks with my pan. Make sure you go over each nut/bolt at least three times. As you tighten down one side the other loosens some so just keep at it LOL.
thanks man!

I dont know Ive always used rtv sealant on oil pan gaskets and whats so different about a moroso oil pan? Is it the aluminum one or the steel replacement one? And if its leaking with just a gasket then it wont hurt to try RTV
I think every pan must be different, I tried 2 times, not using and rtv or honda bond...Followed the moroso directions...one time being on the motor stand, tq bolts in order and it leaked......After using a little honda bond ON THE GASKET no leaks and im happy...just my .02
Well actually the instructions listed on Moroso's website says to use RTV or any equivalant and a gasket. Not just a gasket alone and not just RTV alone.

Don't use RTV...oil will break it down, and it will soften up, and leak. This is the least of your worries...what you have to worry about is it being broken down by the oil, then circulating through your oil, and clogging your oil pickup screen. You'll lose power, and also could starve your bearings. Hondabond is a lot better, and that's what I use.

Yea also I'm not sure how the moroso pan is designed but I've seen lots of oil pans leak because of the flange not being level or straight. Most of the time the bolt creates a little "crater" in the flange causing the pan not to sit completely flush against the block and that will cause some oils leaks as well.
Also is it an aluminum pan or a steel pan and definantly check the flange surface especially since it was used when you got it.
