Default Bad News -- Built Drag racing Head

So i was finally going to start my car last night. After 2 years building it. I was finally going to see what thousands of dollars and endless time sounded like. When I went to check the spark plugs; and when pulling out spark #4, it pulled out heli coil!!!!

I never noticed it!!! I was planning on boosting 30+ PSI; I had the head ported and entire valvetrain done (guides/seals/valves/springs/retainers)!!!

I'm truly stumped on what to do. THE OPTIONS.

1. Heli Coil -- which REALLY SUCKS, it always comes up. I don’t think that it would handle the pressure.

2. Time sert- never dealt with it, but heard it did ok.

or

3. *MY BEST HOPEFULL OPTION" Do you guys think that i can have it aluminum weld filled, then drilled and re-tapped. Is it possible??

What do you guys think?? I already pulled the head out. I’m just waiting on expert opinions.

Good luck getting your head back from these guys. I paid in full and my $600 manifold is still there and it's been 4 years... Lol... I gave up after.

wow, I have always had good transactions with Alaniz technologies but you never know right!
either way try RLZ, portflow or maybe Endyne. Endyne is in Texas also so I would try them first!

Really? I waited 2 months for mine. I had them square ported, chamber works, valves, etc. and repair.

You can at least call them for some advice if anything.

there is no machine shop around you? you best bet would be calling around. finding out what your best solution is your best bet then go from there! Endyne would be the first person I would call!

Larry over at Endyn has the machinery to build you a head from scratch (kidding).. Seriously the guy is good with heads and can fix just about anything. That sucks so bad.. I'm sure if you could take it back you'd find yourself a good core to begin with. Everytime I buy anything used I make sure all bolt holes are perfect. I just bring a flashlight with me and stare down every single bolt hole.

Any local machine shop should be able to weld and re-drill/tap.

I was wondering though, will it still dissapate heat from the plug as good after that?

I know it sucks, but its not a major issue. Either get a time sert and fix it yourself or bring it to any comprable machine shop and they will be able to fix it rather easily.

Really !!?? All the machine shop guys around here must be retarded. no one wants to weld it, because its "too risky". That its too hard to fit the welding gun in there compltley to get a solid weld.

I dont trust heli coil at all. everytime ive had someone install it, it has always came out. Especially a spark plug hole because it has no end.

Im scared to try the time-sert. becuase i have never even seen or heard of how its done and how reliable it is. and when i mention it to machine shop guys around here they look at me like "WTF is that" .

EL PASO, TX FLMFL!! Im e-mailing Endyne and Alaniz at the moment. Endyne is "in meetings until the 11th". and waiting for a response from alaniz. El paso, Texas sucks.

Hey at least your not like me. and get sold a head that had hairline cracks between valve seats. Jasen penman sent the head to endyn to have it checked out before he sold it to me and Larry told him what was wrong and it was garbage. The pile of **** still sold it to me only for me to find out two years later when my car was done.

napa auto parts sells a sleeve you put into the cyclinder. You tap the hole and screw in this sleeve and it works perfect.

well he sold me the head for 700. i put about another 800 or so into it cause he told me it had bent valves. so i bought all new valves and got to make 12 whole passes before we figured it out. We though it was the original machine shops fault but comes to find Larry told him the head was garbage from the beginning. it was an endyn race ported head.

When i mysteriously bent some valves. i sent the head back to Endyn. and Larry responded with''Im sorry how long ago did you buy this head?'' and i told him and thats when the story came out. Of course pigman denies it. But like i told him and i will say it publicly. Hope i dont see your *** at an event.

Timesert FTW !!
I havent had any experience using the timesert spark plug repair kit but I have repaired several blocks with the block repair kit. The kit works great !!
Helicoils in my experience will pull out over time.

If a machine shop in your area cant get the head timeserted for you then you should just look into buying the spark plug repair kit yourself. The kit will allow you to complete the repair yourself with minimal tools. The kits are on the pricey side but if you think about shipping costs for the head you will probably spend the same or less.

IMO welding and retapping is not an option.

Currently asking on a local forum to see if anyone know anyone that has expirence with time sert.

Im thinking it might not worked, since the guy who previously attempted to fix it with heli coil-- already bored it out a tad to insert the heli coil.....

That's why Timesert offers a kit for those who already tried the Helicoil route.... that should tell you something....
