Default 95 Civic EX, No VTEC

Good morning,

I am new to this forum and am having issues with my Vtec. I purchased the car 3 weeks ago and needed to replace the speed sensor & Distributor, which has cleared the CEL's. I believe the car is still in limp mode, but the good news is that I am getting 40 mpg.

How can I test the Vtec componants and if I get it working, will my mpg drop.

Thanks

the best way to check the vtec system is at the ecu connector with a multi meter, this way you can check all you inputs and outputs as that is where they all meet up at...

So, after a little research I have the tests for the Spool valve and the Oil pressure switch. I do not have any CEL's though. Would a failure of one of these componants not throw a code?

Thanks

What I used to do to feel the crossover, was hold it about 3/4 throttle in first gear going up this small hill or even on some on ramps in the rain. When the engine hit 4800 or whatever the crossover is you could feel the tires break loose.

Thanks, I'll try that. I did not know the crossover was so high?

It's just over 5000 on the stock ECU at full throttle.

It's probably working fine, you've just never taken it there.

First off, thanks for the help I've recieved so far.

I have a long steep hill leading to my work, so I drive the car up in 2nd gear and hit 6500 rpm, the car continued a soft pull from 2000 to 6500, but I did not notice any differance once I hit 5000rpm. I tried it twice and get the same result.

Should I have noticed a differance if the VTEC had kicked in?
