Icon2 Need help deciding..

Hi all, I'm Mike and i just joined on this forum. I love cars. I've built Scuby's and DSM's. I'm in need for some opinions on Hondas and this is the place to go, directed here from a friend! Great forum btw, Honda-Tech. Cheers to you
I just found out the wrath of a DSM (a GSX specifically), and how much of an unreliable vehicle it was. I've never spent so much money, and time on a car. I was out 4 months because as soon as i found one problem, sure enough that one problem was like a virus and spread out through the whole vehicle. Ended up finding out i had $4,000 worth of damage. Ended up selling it. --What was the cause? A bad flywheel, and a poorly made 4G63 motor that ONLY had 45k miles and already died.
Ok so enough preaching about DSMs... i have recently been looking at Honda hatchbacks for about 2 months. I currently drive my Scuby that is about the most reliable car i've ever own, but sadly i want to sell it and want something to be fun as a WRX, and it seems like a Honda can be pretty bitchin'. I have a strong debate whether i want an EG6, or an EK4. I do not want to turbo the vehicle, i believe in an all-motor car, not a "spooling fart canon" with an exhaust from Kragen I do plan on purchasing a B18C Type R motor swap.
So if i can have people respond that would make me a happy Canadian or as you Americans call it, a "Kanook" Haha. Cheers!

lol good choice in moving on to Honda. Smart choice number one.
now that you have looked into the hatchbacks and that fun stuff the one thing that will be completly different will be the fact that one the wrx is heavier and awd the second is hondas are really light and front wheel (dumby's thing right there) the only thing you will have to think about is the hatchback and the coupes are good for their own thing. i ahve found the coupes are a good all round thing and the hatchbacks are good on straight aways but thats what i have found. the only problem i see with the b18 n the hatchback is you will be front heavy and most if not all of your wheight will be in the front. personally i like the 4drs and coups over the hatchback but thats me. good luck and good choice coming to honda

SoCalHatch, awesome mate! Any difficulties occur with your motor at all? And wow, that's a superb motor if it can keep up with a scuby haha.. just kidding mate, i've seen Hondas do circles around scuby's.. (ahem, mine...) once lol. Alright, so as for as an all motor i should go with a K20a or K20r? I don't care about price.. price doesn't turn me away from anything.. and i know a K-series motor goes for 4.5k-5k+
And thank you pal, appreciate your feedback and generosity. Cheers to you bro!

Great info Crash. I am leaning towards the hatch, not a fan coupes too much. In fact, i am now considering the K series, but would like more knowledge on the K series motor. Like i said, i want an all motor in a hatch. And thank you, superb information so far bro.

Oh wow, didn't know b18 will add weight...that's something that i didn't know. Yeah i'd love not as much weight on the front end of the car.. that'd be beneficial a lot.

ahhh were you subject to honda abuseLOL i wouldnt say it adds "so much" weight" any real motor swap will add some sorta weight to your ride. and in gutted 18-19 hundred pound hatches like mine there is bound to be some weight issues. it all depends on how you wanna drive it. straight lines that little added weight wont be too much of an issue just dont plan on turning much.lol. but right now k series motors are starting to really pop off and grow in the seen so if i was you id invest some time into researching them and there all motor capabilities. but as of now im very content with my b18 all motor especially when the scubys are behind me

lol the k series oh boy. i will state right now im only 18 and some of my info could be wrong.

one thing i watch a k20 go into a integra. there is A LOT of custom **** there. you have to cut out the floor pan for the 6 speed shifter.
custom mounts.
custom header because of clearence stuff
custom electrical to make up the year difference in od1 to obd2
lots of programming for the ecu.
if you want to keep the a/c= custom a/c lines
and another thing if you do go with hatch you cant take corners as fast becasue of the weight difference. think about it even if you put a k20 or a k24 in it is a bigger moteor than a d a b and a h so wight issues will still be there. where as if you put that same stuff into a coupe or integra the length of the car will help balance out the weight. and if you wanted to supercharge it or turbo it it is impossible with a k20 in a civic.there is alot of other things you have to do that i dont know of lol

Haha, SoCal-- see i want to have that b18 to where i can giggle my way by the scuby LOL.. that's my dream as an ex-subaru owner. But anyways, that's awesome information SoCal. Really, it's helped me a lot.

Crash-- lol yeah i've been researching a little bit and i can already see myself ripping my hair out of my head installing a k series motor. Yikes.. i think i might settle for the b18c for sure and see how that is.

I know a mate that has a b18c so i might chat with him later in the week and see what i can get it for. Im now more serious than ever about an EG.. they seem easier to get than an EK.. i can't find any moderate EK under 4.5k =/

yep and if wight is a problem you could downgrade to a b16 or a b17 vtec. they are lighter than the b18 but can produce the same hp. i saw a video with the motor and all. it was a 4 dr civic with a b16 with 11 pounds of boost run 11.2 in a 1/4 mile it was sick. so those are some more options. another thing you might have to do is change out the hubs so the axels of the gsr will fit properly. and the 92-95 b16 will drop straight in by what i have seen. maybe with a small change but nothing major. good luck

yeah that is sound nobody can ever pass up. my car all you can hear is the intake and exhaust but for free im not complaining. lol and there is going the extreme and slapping an accord v6 into it. whhich is just as complicated as the k20 and you have to remove a intake spacer raise the hood and other electricall. but i heard once its done its a beast lol and there is no room for anything else lol

edit- i forgot to mention when you do the b series swap definitally watch out for clearence with tranny and block. i have seen people have a long block b series with a standard tranny and wonder why it wont fit because the tranny to motor setup is too long for the engine bay lol.

definitely is pure sex to the ear, lol. nice, if it's for free you might as well not complain at all. i wouldn't haha. daamn an accord v6 would be gnarly, couldn't imagine the struggle there.
oh wow, yeah that's definitely would suck lol, but i was actually right on the s80 tranny...that if i wanted to drop a b18c i would need a s80. ---researched it here on the forums.
