Default Hello, new here and am considering a 2006

Acura TL and would like to know if there are any issues re. engine, trans. etc. I would like to know especially if the V6 is an interfence motor and does it use a timing chain or belt? Thanks

It's a timing belt setup unlike the K series motor (TSX & RSX). Rarely are there transmission problems with this generation TL. Sometimes in the 6-spd it has a tendancy to pop out of third gear. Check to see if this service bulletin has been done (if it's manual trans). If its an automatic, we have had a select few come in with bad trans, but nothing like the older model TL.

Other than that there are only three major bulletins...

*Front Windows Stick or Dont Go Down/Up.
- Replace the regulator, run channel molding and wipe molding.
*High Pressure Power Steering Line
- Replace (Covered under a safety recall so it has to be done warranty)
*Wiper Motor Does Not Work or Sticks
- Replace Wiper Motor & Trans Assembly (also safety recall)

Thats really about it...

Oh forgot one... Fuel Pump Relay (car starts rough or not at all)

Just bought an 04 TL myself with 69k miles on it. When should I address the timing belt?

Thanks!

Generally your 105k service but some dealers may try to sell it to you at 90k.

FYI: All Honda's are interference engines. In fact, I think all modern motors are interference engines from all brands. Compression is important to performance, and relatively flat pistons are important to thermal effeciency...
