Default brake lights will not turn off

Brake lights will not turn off even when the car is off and the key is out. Is this the brake light switch doing this? I had installed a new one a while back but my roomates just notified me they were on. Could it be anything else? All the turn signals and hazards work fine, and it was a Major pain in the *** to put the petal switch in the first time. Please tell me it is something else.
Any help would be super.

Start by checking whether the switch at the top of the brake pedal is stuck closed.

Gah. I looked under there and the little rubber arrow it rests on is cracked and a piece fell off when i touched it.
But it still makes the switch go in. Hmmm. I hope this is the problem. I do NOT want to have to mess with that switch again. It was deathly hard to get the plug in the back of it.

You have more than likely found the problem. But do you accept the mission even though it's impossible?

The rubber/plastic pad it rests on is accessible. Hopefully it is the culprit. I have been looking for an hour now to find the part number or name of part but cant locate it. might have to ride my bicycle all the way to the auto parts store.

I believe it is the brake switch. It should be adjustable.......

if the rubber stop on the brake pedal rotted off or cracked off then that is you problem. The same thing happened to me in my DA, I just got a small bolt/washer and nut combo and bolted it in it's place and haven't had a problem since.
