Short Shifters bad or good????
I was looking into buying a short shifter and a **** as well. They both were going to be Skunk 2 short shifter and ****. Now i just need to know if it would do more harm then good. I hear that a shifter and mess up my syncros, your input would be appreciated thank you
I love mine. I have a Skunk2 Short throw shifter and Skunk2 aluminum ****. Try and get a good one like the Skunk2 as alot of people have had the cheap ones from ebay break off on them.
I could see where it might would harm the syncros if you don't shift correctly with it. You don't have to move the shifter as far for it to go into the next gear so if you don't have the clutch quite all the way disengaged from the flywheel when you hit the gear you might grind a little. Usually during fast shifting. I have a stage 2 clutch and have adjusted my pedal height on my clutch so I don't have any problems.
I've been rockin the Skunk2 short shifter for years now with no problems. And with the weighted aluminum **** it puts more weight at the top of the shifter so you just smack that bitch into the next gear.

Short shifters take the driving pleasure to a WHOLE NEW LEVEL. IMHO, it is the single most satisfying upgrade i have ever done. I got a B&M shifter. really good quality.
Another thing that takes the driving experiacne to a whole new level besides the short shifter is good engine mounts. I loved the way it drove after I installed the shifter on my D16Z6 with stock engine mounts. Once I swapped in my LS I went with Innovative mounts and it stiffens everything up in the engine bay and makes it even better. The mounts make my dash vibrate some at idle but whatever. I love em.

Do shifter bushings at the same time. Energy suspension makes Poly ones for around $40.

like the guys above said and from my personal experience i have had nothing but good things to say after installing my short shifter. i also went ahead and redid the mounts with polyurethane so i wouldnt loose any more power through them.

I have run a skunk 2 ss w/ **** and the blox ss with skunk2 **** and both were excellent. Definitely install some energy suspension shifter bushings at the same time! =]
Have had a Cs short shifter with mugen bushings in my EM1 for about 6 years. Shifts are very smooth.
Have a brand new Skunk2 dual bend with Skunk2 shift **** to install on my hatch.

Matter of preference. It ain't gonna make it any faster.
I have the B&M in mine, and it's very good quality. I haven't had any problems with synchros caused by the shifter... my old d16y8 ground second, but it did that before I put in the SS and the shifter didn't make it any worse.
If you shift slowly and accurately, it's not going to cause transmission problems.
That said, I recently drove my friend's EG with the stock shifter and 200K+ miles on the bushings, and thought it shifted incredibly good, to the point where I'm considering throwing my stocker back in. I think it's all perception. The short shifter feels great at first. After a few years, the short shifter feels meh and the stock shifter feels better. It's all in what you're used to.
I really don't see a difference between the skunk2 and B&M shifters that worth the $40 price difference. I'd get the B&M. It's quality, and cheap... you don't see that often.
