Default H-Stock: What clutch?

Pardon the noob question: I plan on running my '94 EX in H-Stock (on R compounds). I'm looking at EXEDY... should I opt for Stage 1 or just go with OEM? Car will see a generous amount of Auto-X and HPDE's. Note the $$$ difference between the two.

thanks

To be safe go with OEM.

TY, the rear main always leaked, so I don't know what a non-slipping OEM feels like. Not sure how they handle heat.

PS - your sig links are bad

I loved the exedy organic racing clutch with my old d16y8. Also as a reminder, exedy is the race division of daikin & daikin makes the oem clutch. So even if you decide to go with oem, you can just get the exedy oem replacement.

this is one of those parts that you could "cheat" on. i put that in quotation cause that's really up to you. unless you actually are thinking about doing a national tour event, AND WIN, i say it that way cause it's hard pressed to beat those damn mini's, you could get away with running a stage 1. and even if you were to beat one of those mini's, i highly doubt that they will ask you to take off your transmission to look at your clutch, but you never know, there are sore losers out there.

but this is what it says in the rule book:

13.10

L. Limited-slip differential, transmission and differential ratios, clutch
mechanisms and carburetion, fuel injection or supercharger induction
systems must be standard as herein defined.

^ so basically saying, go with stock if you want to follow the rules.

I thought clutch/PP were wear items?

Thats besides the point, I'm specifically asking if the EXEDY OEM is up to the task of multiple 90+ second auto-x runs on R compounds in 120+ degree heat.

They are not being sore losers. You could look at it this way, why should everyone follow the rules to the "T" but one person (who might or might not do well) have the option to bend them? Where does it end then? Maybe no one will notice the lighter flywheel or the titanium flywheel bolts. Maybe no one will notice the hyper slippery ceramic coating on my gears which reduce friction.

That's why there are rules, you either follow them for the class or move to another class that allows those rules.

I would add that if one is running regionally only and one were to divulge said rule transcendences to one's class competitors and get their ok ahead of time, then that's an acceptable route to go. When it does become a big deal is when one has a car that is prepped illegally and someone who would otherwise have received a contingency/award of some value (plastic trophies do not count IMHO) does not receive that award because the driver in the illegally prepped car finished higher in the results, then it becomes an issue in my mind.

as far as i know, the exedy oem replacement should do fine. i was more going on about a stage 1 or higher clutch. im pretty sure aftermarket oem replacement clutch will be okay.

on how the exedy oem replacement will hold up??? that's a good question. i did a honda oem clutch/pp swap a few months ago. have done 5 autox's with it. and that's not including out of the 5, 3 events my nephew co drove. the car has seen arkansas and mid state NY. the clutch still holds really good. the oem clutch also holds up pretty good against the hoosiers that i run.

so imo, the clutch will do fine. sure it won't probably see 100,000 on that clutch, but if you put it in right, you'll be fine. as of now i have about 5,000 miles on my clutch/pp. with the way i drive, im pretty sure i'll up to atleast 50,000 out of that clutch.

I can't think of any particular reason why you would need a sooper clutch for autocross in an H-Stock car. You're not gonna beat on it *that* much during an autocross run... even at a ProSolo, you're doing one launch and maybe 2-3 gear changes MAX for the rest of the run. I don't see why a stock clutch would have a problem with that.
