Has ANYONE broken a DSS 5.9?
Just wondering if anyone has broken a DSS 5.9? If so, I'd like to hear specifics like tire size, what clutch, launch rpm, vehicle weight, and what failed (CV, shaft, etc). Just wondering.
There have been some failures, 90% of the time being the inner spline on the pass side, where it goes into the diff. Frank tracked the problem down to bad material they were recieving after they changed suppliers, after the move from NY to NC. I know this to be true because one of my customers overseas with a hot rod car (28" and wheelie bars) was breaking them every few passes and when it was replaced with the new stuff, with the correct material, it has not broken since.
If you're unsure, send yours back to Frank and let him check them out. If it's the wrong stuff, he'll take care of it.

i purchased mine about a year and half ago and my inner splines twisted on the passenger side, turned out to be the bad material is what frank said. they were still under warrantied and got repaired. i actually just ordered up a outter cv boot from them and they said when replacing the outter boot to seperate the inner cv because its much easier. just thought id pass along info.

We've had a couple of people breaking them here, but had the wrong material. I twisted/snapped mine once, with 4 hits on em. Sent them back to frank, got the 300m slug now and seems to be fixed. Haven't heard of any problems yet. Haven't ran my car yet to know so.
ya & they probably didnt load the car ect.. we will never know the answer to some of them
dont know when the bad batch was actually sent out. but ive had my 5.9s since they were first released & they got about 3000miles on the road & about 50 passes on them in the low 10s. was actually thinking of sending them in jsut for the heck of it before the car comes back out 2 play.
deff the only way to go. HANDS DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DSS. I NEVER had issues with my 5.9's . I did aas alot of you know have issues with my pro's last season but they stood behind them and always took care of it right away. There is no better axles company out there.
I twisted at least 6 DSS 5.9 axles in a 3-4 month period and I only got 1 warrantied, only becaused it was back at their shop, twisted, in less than a week after it got "repaired".
I must have spent over $2k in axle repairs last year. Still have 1 twisted on the shelf waiting for them to sort their **** out.

I used my old stage 5's(the inner spline that everyone is talking about breaking is the same on the 5.9's)for a long time and the right side inner spline twisted, so I sent it back and paid to have it fixed. Little did I know this was during the bad material phase. I broke it on the first pass, then on either the 1st or second pass for the next two that they replaced. The outlaw race was coming up, so I ordered the level 6 setup and got the wrong spool. I couldn't get the right one before the race, so I was forced to use my old ones again and broke it on the first pass that I actually got the car to work. Then, once Tony had the problem with his at the outlaw race(there was supposedly something machined wrong), I sent mine back before I put them in to make sure they did not have the same problem and they said they were fine. I went ahead and put them in and they did the same thing Tony's did on the second pass. I sent them back a again and they said they had the same machining problem that they had just told me they did not. They fixed them and I haven't had a problem since. Needless to say, I spent most of last year chasing axle problems. This deal kept me from being able to do well in the outlaw race and kept me from finishing almost several races last year. Now it's fixed. I just need to figure out how to get a transmission to hold up. LOL
DSS always stood behind there stuff and always fixed the problems. I was just victim to a bad chain of events.
