Default tube nuts and pressure?

Well, not really a 'fab' question...but someone here should know. How much pressure can you (or sould you) run through a typical aluminum tube nut/sleeve? In this case, 3/8 aluminum tubing with -6AN aluminum Summit or Earls tube nut /sleeve fitting? (37 degree flare). Summit says they don't know, and therefore will only rate it to 4-5psi. Earls hasn't gotten back to me yet. The interweb shows people running EFI fuel systems on it ~40psi. The tubing itself is typically rated to 250psi; the weak link would obviously be the fitting/flare.

thanks
Matt

depends on the ferule material brass would probably leak with much more than 40psi. The same style fittings are used regularly on bathroom sinks and whatnot find out what kind of pressure household water systems have?

Thanks for the info, didn't think of looking on mcmasters site. Jegs got back to me, and get this

- their house brand fittings are rated to 25psi
- moroso brand is rated to 35psi (according to jegs)
- tubing is good to 500psi.

So, basically... Summit/Jegs don't have any real info you can count on. At least McMaster you can trust to a certain extent. Note Russel didn't get back to me either..

thanks
Matt

Can you use brass for your application. All dot brass fittings are rated to a minimum of 250psi.

I have used the Summit tube nuts and sleeves on an oil feed line for a turbo with no issues. I also use them on my fuel system and turbo coolant lines.

using aluminum hard line/nuts/sleeves is nothing new, do a google search and you can see it being used on fuel injection setups and oil feed lines.. on my car im running 1/2" aluminum lines for my bosch 044 pumps and 1/4" for my turbo oil inlet.

The nuts and sleeves I use are aluminum.

This is the flare tool to get if you think you will be doing hard lines frequently. http://www.mastercool.com/pages/flaring_tools.html
They have a 37 Degree cone and die set to go with it that you can order. I would get this whole kit and then add the 37 degree set because this master kit comes with some other very useful dies.

This is a killer bender that is affordable and works well. http://www.newmantools.com/imperial/tb3.html

If all you are gonna use it for is the AN- they also have this kit a little cheaper

This place had the cheapest 37' adapter set
