Default 91 CRX si Full ground up restoration [build thread]

Well Let me start this off with a little story, I was looking for a clean CRX and eventually since im so impatient got fed up, drove out about 30 minutes and picked up a BEAT *** 91 CRX Si for 625 dollars, thats including the tow bill. Both quarters are rusted through, the carpets soaked, **** leaks, the drivers side seat rail is gone, no inner fenders, rotted bumper reinforcements, and best of all the motor didnt run. Basically this is something that should have been sent to the crusher. But there is hope for this car yet... or so i think. So from the top heres the thread, estimated time of finish: spring 2010. I've never had a build thread or even a honda before this, i dont know what possesed me to buy this thing.

First strarted out by tearing down the whole car down to the shell, everything is coming out and im still not finished yet. Also ordering a **** ton of parts including a whole front end (hood, bumper, fenders, bumper reinforcement), new carpet, new lights. Got a set of full quarters off of ebay from some dude out in PA which i need to go pick up still. Still looking for a mint drivers side seat but i think eventually im gonna get tired of looking and just buy some sparco's or recaro's idk. Everything is still not off of the car yet. Things still on the car: Dash, front sound deadening material, windows, Miscelanious firewall crap. Tonight hopefully it will just be a rolling shell and the body work on the car will begin.

Pictures are all on my camera at the momnent and will be uploaded later tonight after i get everything off of the car. so check back for some preliminary pics of the project tonight.

Quote of the week: "You are in for a lot of work"

Well at the moment all of the pictures are on my camera and im waiting for my adapter to come in so i can upload them all onto the computer. The only picture i have at the moment is this:

As of right now the dash is off and im working on getting the brake booster, the harness and the brake lines out of the way so i can begin to prep the engine bay. The Car is pretty much ready to begin the body work once i finish collecting all the pieces. Basically where im at right now is trying to decide if i want to remove all of the heating parts and leave them out or not mess with it. Also need to get the glass out without breaking it, and call the glass people to come in and remove the windshield.

Edit** If mods wish to move this to appearance and cosmetics thread section its fine by me i completely forgot that was there im still getting used to this forum its a lot different than LS1tech

That is a solid project. Good luck. I am curious about your windshield - why are you removing it, and why is it so difficult...? I am asking because I am dealing with some rust on a pillar and I am nut sure what to do.

Well its not very difficult to take out i'm a bit prone to breaking things unfortunately so instead of doing it myself id much rather just pay the 100 dollars to have someone remove it and re install it for me. And im taking out all of the glass for when i paint it, i don't want there to be obvious lines where i'd have to tape off the moldings. I mean its really not that necessary but i want to cut as little amount of corners as possible. Body work begins tomorrow night after i get out of work so look for more updates. hopefully my SD flash reader will be here by then.

Some stuff came in the mail over the week and i still have to go on some trips to pick stuff up but what ive got so far.

Momo Steering wheel
Momo hub adapter
Amber turn signals
Crystal clear Corners(not exactly what i wanted so im not sure if im keeping them yet)
Front bumper reinforcement
Brand new aftermarket carpet

Also have a question for anyone reading this, if i were to pick up a new passenger side SI seat can i just swap the rails to put it on the driver side? or what would i have to do to make that work.

Another small update, drove out to CT tonight and picked up a rear bumper and a rear bumper support for a good price. Also got my door skins and rear bumper from Honda in texas, but since i bought a used bumper i dont need the new one. If someone wants to buy it, http://hondamarketplace.com/showthre...1#post39235821 didnt get to start the body work yet, will probably start tomorrow night. Also going to pick up my new quarters this weekend. Tired from so much driving lol.

So my flash reader isnt here yet so i still cant post pictures yet, im trying to get the one we have hear at work but someone has it and hasnt returned it yet. Anyway, last night got the engine bay taped off and primered. I want to drop the suspension and subframe out but i have to be able to move the car around, and as much room as that would free up for me i cant keep it in a solid place to sit. car has to be moved outside everytime im done doing work. Plans for tonight are to cut all of the rust out of the rockers and the pillar that the drivers door mounts to. Prep the hinges and and hood hinges and get the jams, rockers and hinges all prepped. I'm just gonna start taking pics with my phone nut when i get my card reader then the real documentation will begin. Oh yeah tonights gonna be my first official welding expirience, hope it comes out alright. At least its only the rockers it gets covered by plastic anyway lol.

Progress as of tonight:
Got the brake booster off finally, that was a biiiig PITA and all of the brake lines off of the firewall and off of the front connections, i havent figured out how im gonna run the back lines, ah ill think of something, still have a while before i need to get that done. Started going at the rockers and theres a lot more rust down there than i anticipated, cut out some pretty good portions and basically got both sides ready to have the patches welded on, still needs a little more but i got tired. Didnt get to weld tonight cause of all of the rust to get out first haha. Well tomorrow i'm gonna take it easy and just make the patches and get them ready to be welded on. Took some pics with my phone but they suck and im too tired to put them up so ill have a better update tomorrow for my shitty thread lol. I think im gonna call this more of a personal reference page more than a build thread.
