D16A6-D16Y8 Swap
Noob could use some help. I am new to Hondas, but not new to cars or working on them. I recently purchased an 89 CRX SI OBD0 car with a blown engine and have found a 98 OBD2 donar car with a D16Y8 engine. Can we make this work? What do we need in addition to the engine? PCM off the donar? What about wiriing harnesses etc? My son is very goood at wiriing, but we are not real sure of what we will need from the donar car. Thanks in advance for all the thoughts and help.

I know he isnt going from a d16a6, but it should give you some type of idea as to what is involved, parts, time, etc.
Make sure to check out the FAQ, there is some good info in there.

Nice write-up, but i'm not sure it captures what the project is.
He is looking to do a complete motor swap so I think what he needs to see is info on -
- engine mounts
- OBD-1 conversion
- Location of IAT sensor
You can use the OBD-2 injectors with a resistor box delete -or- use your stock OBD-0's with resistor box.
Stock tranny and flywheel will bolt up so no need for worry there.

4drEF you are right about my project and I thank you. Having said that, it is still a great write up, took tons of time and effert, and I am apprciative to both the writer and the sender.

the motor should just drop right in, but you will have to convert it to a obd1 meaning, youll need a dizzy off an d16z6 a p28 or any other obd1 vtec ecu and run the vtec of course. good luck!!!

The bolt pattern is all wrong.
Use something like the OBD-1 DX distributor and it bolts up just fine.
you can also use the OBD-2 distributor right off the Y8, but you will need to do some wiring or buy an adaptor.
You need to use your stock driver's side mount and not the Y8 one. You will have to do a little trimming to the belt cover.
*EDIT* ^^ Double check on that mount. Not 100% sure my memory is correct. For a Z6 you have to swap out mounts, but might not have to for a Y8.
Also, you need to extend wires to the fan switch. Y8 has it on the thermostat cover whereas your stock motor has it on the back above the oil filter.
IAT on your stock motor is on the back of the intake manifold. Y8 has it way up near the filter box. Drill a hole in your intake arm and push it in there or in the silicone coupler if you use an aftermarket and don't want to drill into the metal. Do a search for more details.
