Timing Belt Cover Gaskets
Greetings,
We just bought our first Honda, a 95 LX Wagon with 130K. It had never had the timing belt replaced so I'm in the process of doing that. I have found this forum very helpful (esp. TouringAccord's guide). My question has to do with the Timing belt cover gaskets. They all are pretty drenched in oil but don't have any cracks. They also have a redish glaze on them. Is that glaze glue? I'm wondering if I could just clean them (I'm thinking of a bucket of warm water and dish detergent) and put them back in. If I do that do they need to be glued back in? If so, what kind of glue do you recommend?
Thanks!

you can just clean them and reuse them.
you don't have to glue them on, just slide them onto the covers and reinstall the covers. You may have some trouble getting the gasket to stay put while getting the lower cover into position but you'll get it.
and Thanks for the comment
glad it helped

FYI
Changed the timing belt/water pump on my son's 91 recently. I tried and tried to get the timing cover back on with the gasket attached with no luck. Like yours it was saturated with oil and my attempt with adhesives didn't work either. Just not enough clearance to put the cover back on without knocking it off. I finally gave up and put the cover back on without the gasket, and there doesn't appear to be any negative consequences. I'm not even sure, what the functionality of gasket is.

It just helps seal out any road debris and water that may splash up. 90% of Accords getting their second timing belt replaced, are already missing them
