gsr or gsr type-r swap? id like some advice
so far ive taken my car from:

to:

now i wanna do an engine swap next, im not to sure about how it all works with getting ur car BAR legal, but i would like to get either a gsr or gsr type-r dropped in. i dont wanna race my car, but i do want it to have a little bit of power. i dont intend to get too crazy with the engine as far as upgrading the internals, im just thinkin of doin the usual bolt ons, headers, exhaust, intake... a shop i spoke with quoted me 3900 for the gsr swap and 4900 for the gsr type-r swap, is the type-r really worth the extra grand for claimed 30hp gain?

if you got the money and have no problem and regrets getting it then yes..get the type r...there is alot of wonder into the type r....you will be surprise, but if you just want to do what you have stated then i say get the gsr.
the type r is a great engine, obviously, but for the money you could build something wayyy faster than a stock r. i would recommend just getting the gsr. of course payin $3900 for a shop to do it is ruckin fidiculous! thats like almost 2 grand for labor. it would pay off for you to learn how to do this stuff yourself. its not that hard to swap in a b-series engine.
$2300 for motor (just guessing)
$300 for conversion harnesses (rywire is amazing)
$200 for mounts, you could probably get them even cheaper, everyone is selling theirs
$100 for axels, lifetime warranty
most of those quotes are high prices too. it wasnt hard swapping the b16, go for it man.

hell yeah, im definitely diggin the advice, the only reasons i dont really wanna do the swap myself right now is because im in the military and my job takes up a huge amount of my time (average of 12 hour work days mon-fri) and i dont have all the tools i need to do the swap... but now i think im starting to lean more towards the plain gsr now and i can use that extra grand i would save to buy the exhaust, headers, and intake. thanks guys
When I was in the military they had a shop on base that you could use to work on your own cars, you might see if that is availiable where you are. If so then you could use the lift and easily do a B swap in a weekend. You don't need much in the way of tools either.. 10, 12, 14, 17 mm sockets and wrenches, a big *** hammer, 1/4" punch for the bitch pin, and some screw drivers and you can pretty much take an entire honda apart.
just make sure that motor you swap is a usdm and not jdm if you want to bar it...very strong rumors going around that the ca state ref will not bar a jdm engine no more that went into effect back in 04/2009...read the thread below...!!!
