Thinking about buying 94 Accord
There is a 94 accord locally for sale in my area. The guy is asking 1500.it has 180k.I believe it might be an EX not sure. The valve cover does say Vtec.he had to put in a axle and some other suspension pieces for PAs yearly inspection.the car feels solid upfront to me.especially for 180k.I drove another one that had 165k miles and the steering felt sloppy and not as responsive as i like. The car does have typical honda rot. The drive side quarter is worse then the passenger side.it has a new exhaust. Other then rust what else should i be looking for?
I was recently given a 94 Accord wagon. After putting some exhaust work into it and some body parts on, my Accord is a pleasure to drive. My Accord also has 180,000 miles. It does shift hard for an automatic, but after further research, this is typical for that car. There were supposed "metal shavings" in the oil, but I just changed the oil and found no such invaders. I guess I would look for the hard shifting, metal shavings, and typical rust. Perhaps if you decide not to buy it for $1500, I may... Take care and good luck!

I don't think the hard shifting is really a "bad" thing, just typical of the breed. I've seen complete engines on eBay for $500-$600. As for trannys? I'm not too sure. Check eBay for going rates.
As I have stated in all my other threads regarding this.
Take the car to a Honda dealership to perform a "pre-purchase inspection" it's $70 and takes an hour or so but they will list every damn thing wrong with the car and let you know. Obviously they want to be the ones to fix it but it gives you an idea of what's wrong and if you can replace it yourself or if it would be too much of a headache.
That $70 could save you hundreds or thousands.

op have you checked for leaks? oil, coolant, gasket leaks (oil pan, valve cover). BTW 1500 is high for an accord with rust i'd give the guy 900 the most.
No dnt buy the 180 k too much miles I have a 94 ex nd it has 124k is givin me too much engine problems juss keep looking for another one wit less miles on craigslist.org
I purchased mine with 175k miles on it with no issues. There is nothing wrong with a higher mileage Honda.
Ya im not worried about the mileage. When i drove the car everything seemed tight.im gonna have my dad take a look at it.Hes a GM tech but he works for independent shops as a 2nd job.Not saying his a honda master certified tech but i mean as far as looking for leaks and checking for worn out suspension parts he could do that.im also relaying the information you all are giving me to look out for so he can check.obviously there could be some things u cant account for.but i trust his judgement. If he doesnt like it ill keep looking. So far 1500 for an accord is the cheapest i found locally that doesnt need an engine or transmission or tons of body work.
There are things you won't be able to see probably.
Half assed wiring jobs for stereos or speakers
Missing bolts on the interior
Random parts left or missing in the engine bay
etc
If the frame is straight, VINs match and it is in relatively good condition I'd pick it up.

If you are really all that worried about the engine, as this english major above said is his problem with his 124k mileage engine, then do a compression test and oil pressure test, that can give you a good idea right away what you have to work with. If you take it for a pre-inspection like MuffinMan says, you could get them to do that as well.
well just got back.and like i thought he saw more then i did.Its go more rot then i thought.so back to looking at the local craiglists adds
