I am about to swap in an A6 into my hf. The engine i bought does not have an intake.
It seems like i read somewhere that the Y8 and Z6 flow better.
What should i get? I'm looking for something cheap, but can get a little gain out of from the stock A6 intake.

the y8 would be better for turbo but for N/A, the z6 and y8 are the same thing ( mods that i've had in the past were just ebay intake, y8 tubular header 99spec and test pipe ).
only thing that i noticed for the y8 was somewhat loss of power in the topend area..
i had the same motor as you but obd1 converted on the p06 ecu

 

Its best to port match your head or you'll get that topend loss you here talking about with either. The A6 has smaller ports then the Z6 or Y8. But either way the Y8 or Z6 mani is better then the A6 mani. My vote goes to the Y8 mani though .

so you heard about the jdm sohc zc cam being bigger than the us d16a6 cam?
so i grabbed a zc cam from the junkyard a month ago and installed it on my a6..
man for the first two damn days, it was way much more torqy-er aside from the stock a6 cam. so yeah, on the third day, i had very very bad valve tap. sad =( but yeah, proof that the zc cam KILLS the a6 in a few days lol..

to OP. any intake manifold other than the d15b7/d16a6 would be better.
anything that you could afford or find, feel me? goodluck

 

so if im not going to port it, am i better off sticking with an A6 or would the Z6 and Y8 still be an improvement or the same. I just don't want to get a z6 or Y8 if I'm going to loose power.
