questions about performer x intake mani
i just purchased a sick rmf header, and got a custom exhaust installed. to complete my i/h/e setup i am looking toward the edelbrock performer x intake manifold. my only concern is that it says on edelbrocks website that is bolts up with a 65 mm throttle body. i have a 68 mm throttle body. does this mean that i would need to get the manifold bored/honed out to 68 mm? thanks for the help.
Yes/no, you can use it together, but the TB opening will be 65mm and the lip will kill incoming air velocity. 68mm is awfully big for a NA setup anyway....unless ofcourse you're gonna hit 300whp.
i was under the impression that the bigger the TB the better. correct me if im wrong. could any machine shop bore the intake manifold out for me? or should i send it to a specific place? OR should i just get a 65 mm TB? sorry for all the questions....still learning this all motor stuff.

You need the correct size for your engine setup. The basic run down is that for a smaller TB to move the same amount of air the air has to be moving at a higher velocity, which then "rams" the air into the engine (very good). If you get too large of a TB, air velocity slows down and you lose that "ramming" effect. There are limits to this though which is where proper TB sizing comes into play. As with all things, resistance becomes higher as air moves faster, thus you can't throw a 25mm TB on and call it a day because the air resistance becomes to great and you limit yourself. Thus, there is some fancy formula that explains all this and finds the optimal point bewteen air resistance and velocity, but the hell if I can explain it. Basically 68mm is too large for "most" NA setups. It also helps to create a lip on the inside of the TB (like having a 62mm TB on a 65mm IM) because it "traps" the air in and doesnt let it reverse out of the IM (anti-reversion is the tech term if you care to research it some more).
i had no idea. thanks for the input. after surfing this board for almost 3 years it never ceases to amaze me that people with almost 10,000 post are no help at all.
here's a rundown of my setup:
b18 bottom end
grs top end
ls crank
itr cams
b16 pistons
rmf header
custom 2.5" ss mand. bent exhaust
stock intake mani(see original post)
what do you think the optimal intake size, tb size would be? would my setup work well with the performer x intake manifold? or is there a better option?

If anyone wants to talk to me or ask me anything, PM me or send me an email. Or I can tell you guys of a better site with a member base that actually has an average IQ which is above that of tumbleweed. Or the management here might ban me before I get 10k posts just for mentioning it. Big brother, or older grandfather, is watching.
then WHY did you bother posting? boredom? seriously man.
if you want to pout and bail out, dont let the door hit your *** on the way out. there is a wealth of knowledge up there in the search that makes your comments obsolete.
ill tell you where you, your boy rocket and your daddy don flores are messing up. when someone posts a thread that says "yo yo whuddup dawg, im tryin to put a H22 head on my D series and i need to know if B series headgasket will work??" those are the guys you flame off the face of the earth or just click the back button.
but when average joe asks a question and is well versed enough to make the question specific enough to garner a pinpoint answer, you answer it if you know it and move on. you, don and robert seem to not have a character judgment skill.
on top of that you could have told him about rocket cams or offered to TB match his manifold for him via CCcylinder heads, via PM of course, but rather you chose to show us exactly what day of the month your PMS occurs. good job, betty.
bye.

Read both pages, theres info about manifold designs and ITB sizing.

Dont worry. Only 36 more posts to contend with after this one, you single celled pile of ****. I will become increasingly hostile and "out of character" until then.
