Icon2 Boot Latch warning light

Hi Guys,

This is my first post here (after lots of searching) so please don't bite my (virtual) head off.

I cannot get my boot latch warning light to turn off, I have power to the latch but even if I unplug it and ground it manually nothing happens, I have taken the latch out and the switch is touching/not touching when it should be. Any help is much appreciated

Thanks in advance

oh and I just wanna say thanks for all the info and links I have used especially fixing leaks.

I think hes talking about the hatch open light on the cluster. I thought that latch didn't have power. I thought it just completed a grounding circuit and the light on the cluster already had power. You may have a break in wire somewhere between the latch and cluster. You may want to pull the cluster and do a continuity test to see.

that is correct

wouldn't actually be a complete break in the wire as that wouldn't complete the ground - most likely, the wire is grounded somewhere between the cluster and the switch and a continuity check would reveal that - the ground wire for the trunk light branches off the ground wire for the latch before it gets to the latch - could be something in the trunk light grounding out

ok what I meant was if I pull the connector apart and put one end of my tester into that and the other end onto the main ground for the rear lights it makes a curcuit. I have also tried to go from the connector to ground with a piece of wire, no joy. looks like i'm going to have to pull the dash out.

Edit: jlicrx - I must have been typing as you posted

if you unplug the connector and the light stays on, you have a short somewhere in the ground wire between the cluster and the switch - if you unplug it and the light goes off, you have a bad switch

just worked it out. I have a clifford alarm that was installed when I got the car they have rewired the boot warning light to a new switch under the bonnet (had a dodgy bonnet catch and haven't had the bonnet closed properly, I have a lot of work to do on her before she is road legal)

Thanks for all your help.
