which Tranny??? Pls. help
Good day fellow peeps...
I am currently running a JDM ITR turbo pushing around 400 whp at 1.0 bar of boost...The car's tranny is standard 4.4 final drive (it is 96) and standard gearings from 1st to fifth. Am planning to swap my final drive into MFactory's 4.05 FD and change the fifth gear to LS .714 5th gear. But I am deeply concerned that my torque level will be affected comes the car's performance after the swap.
Now, shall I go on with the .714 LS fifth gear with 4.4 final drive for free way driving with same torque level?
OR
change the Final drive to a 4.05 and put the L.S fifth gear at the same time as well....
Am caught up with the dilemma pls help..
Thank you lads for your opinions...

Depends on what you want to do with the car.
Track/strip or highway driving?
I'm at about the same power level and ahve a brand new stock USDM transmission sitting on a shelf, but am running a GSR transmission with a Quaife in the car at the moment.
If you're looking to get better highway mileage, then maybe the 4.05 and LS 5th would be OK.

Thanks Zygs....
I wanted good hi-way milage and at thesame time I dont want my acceleration to suffer. I heard that if you prolong the final drive (4.05) accelaration even in turbo would slightly be sluggish; don't know if it is noticeable though on my power level.
Maybe it would be very hard to keep up with fast cars on accelaration on track days.
Thanks...

I think it's a little late to be looking for mileage ... with a turbo Type R.
As it is, Looks like I can manage something like 26-28 mpg (US) on 225/45/16 048's doing about 65-70 mph.
On the other hand my stock 06 Si has gotten as high as 36-37 mpg (30-32 highway normally) doing about the same speed, and I'm even considering trading it on a CR-Z once they come out ....

Hey Zyg whats a CR-Z?
Hey OP, have you seen MFactory's gear thread calculator? If not check it out. It'll give you exact info on what your RPM's will be in any gear.

Though, for full disclosure, I'd also have to say that I've recently bought a Mugen 3.800 FD set for my 85 CRX Si, and that it may soon (eventually/years) be getting an old sk00L HKS turbo setup.

WOW! That little CR-Z thingy looks cool! I like!

So is your old school SI in good shape? I remember those things like it was yesterday. I got 3 days from getting an 86 model and it got rear ended and totalled before I could purchase it from my friend. BUMMER!
