Default Intake manifold

Hi guys, my first post so be kind. I have a high comp b18c (12.6:1), the intake manifold among other things could be better i think. What have you guys found to work well with these setups? I'm using the p72 gsr head.

Edelbrock Performer x has been shown to be hard to beat on the 1.8L.

It gets beat by the S2 pro series manifold which gets beaten again by the performer X manifold (on a 1.8L).

The best way to go if you have money is get a ITR manifold ported by Importbuilders.com. They are very good for high compression, big bore motors. Check them out.

FYI: an ITR intake manifold will not bolt directly to a GSR head without significant modification.

Hey guys, thanks for the help. I think the performer x is the favourite at the moment.

With the ITR Intake Manifold the runners are at the incorrect angle for the P72 head.

My suggested order for max peak power (for max torque and power under the curve different order)

worst 7th Stock GSR
\/ 6th Skunk2 orginal
\/ 5th Blox
\/ 4th Stock GSR Ported
\/ 3rd AEBS
\/ 2nd Skunk 2 Pro
best 1st Edelbrock Performer X

Keep in mind this is a bit application dependent, but in most cases should work.

Are you saying that a Stock GSR intake will have more peak power than the Performer X? Or does the order go from 1-7 from the bottom up?

Thanks for that mate. I'm looking to make more torque and mid range, but still have a respectable max peak power.
Will the cams i'm using (skunk2 pro series stage 3) have any bearing on my choice?

I personal haven't seen much data on those cams. I thought at one time I had heard more people had better luck with Pro2 than Pro3 for torque. Like I said not much data out there on those cams.

Big Cams, Big Compression I would go with the Edelbrock Performer X.
Is this a 1.8L or 2.0L engine? Not that it matters, just curious.

i highly doubt that the s2 im will outperform an aebs p72 im across the board (probably the only p72 im on the market that isn't a reflanged itr style im). if u dont believe me, line up a pair of s2, edelbrock, blox, fr, obx p72 and pr3 manifolds. then look at the aebs pr3 & p72 im's, it reveals a few things. i'd opt for the aebs if ur on a budget or possibly the performer x, if money isnt an issue (even though i dont have any 1st hand experience with it)

It matters more than you think. Skunk 2 Pro 3 cams are far to big for that engine setup. The performer X is a great 1.8L intake manifold but isn't so great on a 2L and up motor in some cases, depending on the build. People have to remember that there is no magic bullet in parts where a single part is "the best" on any engine combination.

very ture, but what people need to start ingesting is, be wary when choosing an im. the internet is notorious for filling peoples heads with ****. an im dictates the shape of the power curve. one bad decision on the quest to finding that magic bullet and ur motor will faceplant. the only way to turly make the right choice is via testing.....not testimonies

Edit- a good friend and member of this site dynoed his built c1 recently and made 205whp (@8700rpm), 133wtq (sorry, no churches type dyno's up here) on a 3 year old rr motor using and aebs im. i'm having troubles posting the graph though.

Thought that might be the case, but i'll have to make the most of it for the time being. They were on the car when i bought it.

All manifolds were tuned with the best vtec transition and the same A/F at 13.2.Cam gears were not touched after the initial tune. So all manifolds had the same cam position. Vtec was generally between 4100 and 4300 rpm. All manifols were tested with the same intake and TB, Also all manifolds were opened up to 65mm to match the TB.
