Go with a stock B18. Its a good platform to start with and you can go up from there. Plus they can be had for cheap.

Wow, so many possibilities. There are many factors that can determine what engine is best for you. Got any specifics?

go on one of the jdm engine sites, u can get free shipping and usually a 1 year warranty, comes fully assembled minus the tranny, my bro has a b20z in his eg hatch 30,000 miles, no leaks runs like a champ...

A gsr(b18c or b18c1) will run you about 2500 for complete.

A LS you can find at the junkyard, craigslist, HT marketplace for cheap but can't guranteed on the low mileage.

Just take your time and search around if you come up with a deal then your set.

Goodluck.

b18 (LS) build perfect for a tight budget start stock swap from there vtec head in the future maybe some cams decide turbo or all motor every month set a goal to increase the potential of 1 compotnent maybe one month do head internals or assemble a bottom to increase compression or to lower it aka prepare for boost theres millions of directions off of that base

Yeah but with ~200 bucks he can convert it to MPFI and have a pretty decent platform to run boost through. Grab a vtec head. run ~10psi or so for cheap using a HF mani and a t25 turbo. Will be a fun car all around. It might not be the fastest but it will be the best bang for the buck as he is on an "incredibly tight budget". A boosted D will walk on any B series with a good tune and a decent driver mod.

The OP will have an easy 1k wrapped up in a B series swap if he buys decent mounts, a decent motor, axles, ECU etc.

i agree with changing to multi port its a hell of an upgrade if u ask me, and on a tight budget it is a good idea.....thats what i did, just not running boost cause that could get expensive..

Well it's a rough guess honestly. I wouldn't guess that an a6 manifold, ECU and distributor would cost 200 but it depends on the deals you can find n such also. IT can be done for cheaper/more expensive.

All the answers were thrown out there on a tight budget. He apparently wants to go fast on a tight budget.

Thanks for your inspirational post on helping him find direction on what he should do

Atleast the other "worthless" posts actually gave him opinions that he was asking for in the first place.
