Is there anyway to tell if you have a B16 YS1 or a LS YS1 w/o cracking out the casing?
This is what the Stamp says on the Transmission. YS1 1035024.
Thanks for Everyone's Help!
Chris.

Unfortunatly there isn't short of cracking the case open. Other than installing it and seeing how short the gears are... start counting the teeth.
Or you can try this:
just pull the shifter pin all the way out, it's supposed to go in 3rd gear. do the same on the original LS tranny. put your intermediate shaft in, and turn the transmission shaft where the clutch connects, and for one turn of the transmission shaft, count how many turn you get on the intermediate shaft. use white marker to be more exact, and count your ratios this way. the GS-R ys1 should have less intermediate shaft turns per transmission turns than the LS transmission. much more simple than opening it
open it up and count the teeth on the fifth gear pair and divide and you'll get the gear ratio for the fifth gear. 0.880 is GSR, 0.742 is LS.
