Default Koni install

Looks like my suspension is finally going in this weekend and I have a couple questions (I'm sure there will be more later). First, on the front shocks there is supposedly an "index mark" to align the shock's rotation. Is the index mark the smooth indentation near the bottom of the shock? Does it matter where the spring and spring perch are rotated to? Also, what is a good adjustment for Yellows to start out with? I've heard a half turn is a good start. Thanks in advance.

Do I assume these are the ones you have to take off the car to adjust?

No these are Yellows, not Reds, should have been more specific.

The yellow ie. Sports come two ways. One is take off the car, compress and turn to adjust. The other has a **** you put on the top and turn to adjust

yes that is the mark to align the shock and the fork.

the spring perch doesn't matter, but the hat that goes on top of the spring does. you need to have that aligned properly so it will slip into the two holes in the chassis and have the fork bolt line up. if you are using lowering springs, the alignment isn't a problem (usually) as the spring is not under tension and the hat can move freely.

the 8040 series is the kind that you have to take the shocks off the car, compress and turn to adjust.

the 8041 series have the **** at the top of the shock piston that you turn to adjust.

Thanks a lot for the info, guys. Does anyone have a good starting adjustment, though? Also, since the spring won't be under tension, what is the best way to lower the car onto the spring? Is there any chance the spring won't line up with the hat on top (since it will be loose)?

start at full soft and work your way up from there till you find an adjustment you like. you will need to experiment to find the setting that you like.

the spring will stay pretty centered since it sits in the perch. althouh, i have had the spring pop back into place a few times once things settled.

if you have two people, lower the car slowly and have the other person make sure the springs are seating right.

or

you can zip tie the top hat to the spring to make it seat properly.

Thanks a lot breaka. It's nice to find someone who knows what they're talking about AND is willing to share. We'll see how it goes.
