2.5" flange to 3"dp w/o reducer??

2.5" flange to 3"dp w/o reducer??

I have a turbo with 2.5" exhaust out and the flange. I also have a 3" downpipe. Can I weld the 3" downpipe directly to the 2.5" flange or is it a must to weld a 3" to 2.5" reducer in between?

all you have to do is notch the tubing where the the bolts go
