Default Good Ratios

Im looking into rebuilidin a transmission. I have read and heard so many different set ups, i would like some input from the people that actually did these set ups. Im lookin for a good daily transmission, but that will have its fun on the weekends? I was thinkin b16 1-4gears and a ls 5th, but doin some research i also read the gsr/ls 1-2 4-5, and a b16 3 will give me a good set up. Im assuming thats with the gsr 4.4 fd ... any input on this guys? thanks

No one can really answer this question for you as it really depends on personal preference as well as application.

Best thing for you to do is to run several gear ratios through a gear calculator and choose which speed/rpm curve is suitable for your needs: http://www.teammfactory.com/gearcalculator.php

Well, do you want ***** out acceleration, ***** out acceleration + sensible top speed, lot of top speed but sacrificing acceleration, low noise cruising, don't care about noise etc etc

So many different "personal" variables........

i wanna rebuild the tranny on stock parts, nothin aftermarket for now, but the next one FOR SURE! ... I have a h2b setup, i want to be able to accelerate as fast and smoothly as possible, but want to be able to still drive on the freeway and not kill my gas mileage! It is my daily driver so i am ok with some noise but dont want it to be annoyin loud. I will be doin mostly drag racing, probably up to 110ish, so i dont think i need as much top speed .. thanks for your help

Why wouldn't you be able to drive on the highway?

It's not the rpm that gives you shitty mileage (it's only 3600rpm @ 70mph, and stock Si's/ITR's have good mileage), it's your right foot.

so why is it that everyone with a b16/itr tranny says theyre in vtec when drivin on the freeway? i have a gsr tranny so this was the reason for the post. is it just a mis conception about those trannies? actually yea, i remember when i drove my homies si on a 5 hour trip, at about 80mph he was at a higher rpm than i ever was with my gsr ...

Either they have set their vtec point to 3600rpm, or they are driving faster than 70mph.

I rebuilt a b16 tranny for my best friend almost my brother in my eyes and I put the 5th gears from an ls in the main and counter shaft it runs great on the highway but for sure the ls 5th is a cruising gear. I kept the b16 final drive in it. your revs will drop big time when shifting into 5th gear

ok so this is what i came up with ... Ima use a 4.4 fd, Gsr 1st, 2nd, and 5th, then ima use a b16 3rd and 4th ... my theory behind this (lol i sound kinda smart ) is to keep 2nd a lil longer cause it comes pretty fast, but 3rd and 4th shorter cause those gears seem to take a lil longer to go thro, and gsr 5th to cruise but still have a strong pull ... what do you guys think?

well for now since i dont got time and space to do this ima have to settle for a b16 transmission or gsr, what you guys think? thanks
