small rust spot repair on 94 accord
just bought a 94 accord, overall the body is pretty clean but there is a small rust spot above the passenger side rear fender well. i was wondering what i could do to prevent it from spreading, im not really worried about fixing it completely and repainting, i just dont want it to get bigger because i think it already has in the 2 weeks Ive owned the car.
That is the dreaded Accord rear wheel well rust cancer. It is the fastest spreading of all Accord cancers. From this image I can see that this rust spot is coming from behind the paint. Rusting from the inner fender/trunk panels out. If you remove the rear wheel you may find that there is more to this small spot than meets the eye. If your lucky you have caught it early before it has spread into adjoining panels.
Best fix for this is to completely remove all traces of rust and replace it with sheet metal. Cut out 1/4 inch around the rust, into good metal and replace with a metal patch. Then apply primer/sealer, spot putty, primer and paint to inhibit any further rusting. There are no quick fixes when it comes to rust. You have to remove it all or it will continue to spread

Has there ever been any definitive reason as to why pretty much all Accords rust in this area?I've also seen this on Civics, but it pretty much happens to every single older model Accord.
There is a nice little shelf of sorts that dirt will accumulate on. This dirt and fine dust holds water for extended periods of time therefore allowing for a perfect atmosphere for rust to form. Honda also used those dirt collecting rubber trim pieces around the wheel well. Those two are big contributors to the rusty Accord wheel wells. I removed the rubber trim on mine but I was too late. the rust had already started on the inside of the wheel well. I couldn't even see it. Then within two months small bubbles started to appear, then a month later those little bubbles were complete rust holes.
Run your fingers along the back of the wheel well lip. You will probably find a concrete like dust substance caked up in there. If it has rained in the last few days you will more than likely find some moist dirt sitting up in there. It will stay damp until the air slowely dries it out. In the dry arid climates this process would probably take longer as the dirt stored up in there will dry out faster.

What ghost accord said was right to do. Either that or sand away the rust spots on the inside and outside spots, and shoot some primer over top of it to try and keep the water from eating more away.
