ticking motor
so i just came back from the canyons. i was driving my car in the high rpm range and now i hear a ticking. i cant really tell if its my valves or a spun bearing. can i just do a compression test to see if i have a bent valve? if my compression checks out can i go ahead and assume that its my bearings? what other test can i do to determine this ticking noise?
you might need to set you valves, what grade of fuel are you running, you wouldn't have bent a valve unless you've jumped cam timing, and if you would have spun a bearing, you'd know
i am running 91. could i have bent a valve due to valve float since i was in the high rpm range. also note that i do not have performance valve springs to be in the 9k range for long periods of time. stupid i know but i did it and now i regret it.
sounds like you just need to adjust your vavles. this place sells skunk 2 valve springs for just over 200 http://www.jazzproparts.com/Skunk2_H...ngs_s/1378.htm
If you have VTEC, might be your lost motion assembly. Check the valve clearance first, then try sticking your finger in the middle cam lobe which is what rides on the LMA. See if its smooth or is rough. Might have worn out LMA's.
alright thanks guys. i cant really tell but to me it does kinda seem as if it was coming from the block area which most likely means the bearing right. anyways ima see what kind of stuff i could find under my vc. thanks again.
