Best place to find a CB750 or 900f?
Considering doing a retro race bike build (1981-1984 style or whatever it is) for a streetbike and want to see how much a cb750f or 900f is going for these days in decent shape. I've not found very much though other then a cb900f forum with little to no traffic. I know a few people around my area have picked up some. Least I think....

Interesting. I'll look for the 900 (which I was already contemplating cause bigger always = better). My only issue is I want to go Freddie Spencer ala 1982 cb750f daytona winner on this thing and do a chain conversion.... I need to look into it more before I go for it. The rest like exhaust, wheels, brakes, carbs, clip ons, shouldn't be that bad. At least I think....
Craigslist for sure! I have a vintage Honda CB200T I got of craigslist for quite a deal. Not sure where your at but if your up north your luck, they are all over!
Most people are not in favor of the DOHC engines of the 80s vs the SOHC engines of the 70's.
750's in general have been harder to find. I've been looking for a running one in decent shape to do a Cafe bike with and it's hard to find. Most bikes I find are in good shape asking for $2000-3000 or $500 completely ripped apart after a failed attempt at a project bike. In the end, craigslist is the best place to look.

no it didn't. Not sure on everything yet. I just have some of the honda prints from superbikeplanet on my wall and have been digging the cb750 one a bit. IF I do it I want to turn it into a superbike basically (with obvious limitations of course). Before I do anything I'd need to look into it all to see what's possible. This may all end up being a total dream as I have my RC51 I'd like to tear all the way down soon and get another bike for either street or track as well... Too many projects or dreams, way too little money and time.

That's the 900 bored out to 1025(16" f and 18" r deep sump factory engine). I cant for the life remember the year, its been so long. but it was 1025cc until about 84 or 85.
FYI spencer didn't win the 200 in 82. he didnt win until about 85 or so
yeah. the print I have though is the 82 one though heh. I'd like to do something at some point but need to see what's possible. hardest thing by far would SEEM to be the chain conversion cause as far as I'm aware of they're all driveshaft
Edit: WAIT! was 83 and after for the 900 a chain? Picture I found shows a stock one with a chain...

the CB has never been a shaft drive.
FYI they didn't go to Superbike until 1984 or 1985... prior to that it was F1 machinery or Prototype machinery. yamasha Had a strangle hold on that race until Honda finally won many years later

Just saw something on that recently.
And now I'm confused on the chain/shaft drive. Could've sworn I was seeing them as driveshaft but what I'm finding today is all chain drive. Not a bad thing at all, just confusing the hell out of me.

Well either way the one I want isn't which is great (the cb900f). Only questions are the motor and if I can go big bore like a 1025, finding wheels that'd work, and seeing my options for stuff like brakes, suspension, etc...
disregard that comment on sohc by nowtype... that might be some wacky throw back hot set up... they didnt last to long when compared to the dohc's that started to show up when kawasaki launched the 900 in 72/73
550 was a 4 cylinder and shaft drive. Was a fun bike.
