project crx: what would you guys rather buy??
hey fellas...me and a couple of my friends are pitchin' in to buy a crx project car (all motor race car, so of course we're stripping the hell out of it and including goodies such as fiberglass frontend, lexan, etc...). our choices at the moment are
1. 89 crx si. front end damage, motor is kaput. axles are dead. i'm not sure what else cuz we haven't gone to see it yet. 600 or best offer is what the guy wants
or
2. 90 crx hf. still runs(automatic). front and back bumper are banged up from a fender bender. she wants 600 i think.
what do you guys suggest???i need as much info as possible. thanx!

I would say to go with the Si. I would imagine (although I don't know for sure though) that the auto-to-manual conversion would be a bit time consuming and expensive.
Since you're getting a FG front end, the front-end damage will be taken care of - as long as the frame's not bent.
The axles will need to be replaced anyway, so no big deal there.
Sure, the HF is lighter to begin with - but if you're stripping it all out, it won't matter in the end. More parts you can sell off - sunroof, interior panels, other extras that the Si has, and the HF doesn't.
Also, it sounds like it's in worse condition than the HF so you can weasel the price down further, giving you more room to start work!

I'd say go with the si
if my memory serves me right, the dx is the only trim that came in automatic therefore that 90 hf may in fact be a 90 dx, if so I would say go for the si
as the previous person said as long as there's no frame damage your all set, you can get the person to go down on the price due to the damage, axle and non working motor
not to mention I believe it was the 88-89 crx's that came with rear drum brakes and a few extra goodies
