timing belt alignment question
I bought a 91 civic hatch dx and it ran fine and then the timing jumped with the dizzy locked up. Noticed there was the horizon marks on the cam gears and then the 3rd mark to line up to a notch on the timing cover to set the timing, but i didn't think that was on these models so i was wondering if it was supposed to be or if someone swapped the head. if the cam gear has the mark, am i pretty much supposed to just use that 3rd mark instead of the typical horizon marks, i don't mess with EF's hardly.
first check the head code and compare it to your particular engine with the link below...your head code is stamped on the front of the head just above the headers...could be that they swapped the cam gear as well

align the white mark on your crank pulley with the marks on lower timing belt cover. then check to make sure your cam gear has up pointing up, and the two marks on the side line up with cylinder head surface
you don't line up the horizon marks in all cases of engines, there are certain d series like mine that have a 3rd mark that is a tooth off that you line up with a mark below the cam gear, making the horizon marks not line up with the head but its in time. All is good.
its a d15b2 but i think it had a different head put on it in the past, the car runs and i didn't care to take the header cover off to see the head code.
