Default Building a LS/Vtec

I am building my new motor soon, and I am about to order pistons and rods. I am looking at Crower fast times LS rods[$275], and P30 honda pistons[$270]. These will be used with a LS crank. I am still looking to find some new OEM LS rods for cheap. I also saw type R pistons. Would that be better.
Would it be that much better to go with GSR rods and crank? Also I will have:

SK2 stg2 cams
SK2 valves
SK2 duel springs
SK2 intake manifold
SK2 cam gears
GSR head

With a 6 puck clutch with phantom grip on a b16 tranny.

+other goodies.

I am just looking for input/advice from some experienced guys here. What would you recommend? Are these prices reasonable? I just was a quick fun car I can drive everyday.

..thanks.

That is probably the most common build in the ls/vtec world. It's common for a reason...

use the oem rods with upgraded hardware. if you are all motor and you buy rods that are the same or heavier than oem, youre wasting your money. youre actually paying money for a downgrade in power.

WOW! that's cheap!
....that's exactly why I posted this.

Should I go with LS rods or b16 rods? I have 3 good b16 rods.

..and I will definitely look into the RS pistons...

Thanks.

you can find stock ls rods for cheap that will work, make sure you get arp rod bolts

ls crank
ls rods (honed big end)
arp rod bolts
rs machine 81.5mm type r pistons
honed block

thats what i have and pretty much the same head internals as you but b16 head and pro 1's

Sounds nice. So do you have about 12:1? Premium gas, I'm sure.

not to thread jack but, do LS vtec's use oil sqirters? or is there a way to add them? I had planed to slap a stock b16 head on a stock ls bottom end using blox kit and piston of my choice, for the extra .2 would a dry sump system be a good idea im so affraid of not having addiquit oil to keep things from not braking?

ls blocks do not have oil squirters and most ppl that do have gsr block end up blocking then off anyway

my compression ratio should be around 11.7 with the ls block, 81.5 rs p73 pistons, and b16 head

My previous build was b16 crank and rods, PR3 pistons, and b16 head resurfaced .035

The pistons I bought were $180 shipped with rings. I will use an LS crank and rods. And I have a DC header on the car when I bought it, since I alreadu have one I am not gona buy a new one, but if I was to buy one that wouldn't be it.

this is a good setup for ya:
81mm bore
ls crank
ls rods(shotpeened perfered)
p30 pistons and rings
arp ls rod bolts.arp gsr main studs
oem or aftermarket block girdle
acl racing bearings

setup is good for 200+ hp and 9k revs.w/ a b16 head should make about 11.5 comp.w/a gsr head about 11.7 comp.good with 93 octane gas.depending on setup the compression ratio will change.good luck with ur build!

should be fun in a eg, my setup will go in my heavy *** DA, if i had a choice i would put it in a gutted 88-91 hatch but we'll see im hopin 11.7 wont be too high for 93 octane
