So I live in Dallas Texas and I was wondering the best way to become a trained Honda Mechanic. The only school here is ATI and they dont offer anything that is specific. Should I do an apprenticship of go to school? Any Ideas would be great ? Please e-mail me or just post up with suggestions.

I think you hit the nail on the head... you should do both if possible... Go to school for advanced training and try and work at a dealership starting from the ground up

 

be advised the motorcycle industry is kind of on the down now. It may be hard to break into a job

when i was a tech for honda (auto) i just learned everything there. they paid for training that i needed....but if you can ...if money and time isnt an issue go to a techincal school.. it will help but when it comes down to hands on in the shop its a bit diffrent. well some things are...

 

I`ve been in the industry for almost 20 years and I do agree that we are in a down swing right now. But it will turn back around.
Probably the best way for you to go would be to get a job as an entry level tech, but be advised that in Dallas you can make more $ flipping burgers at Sonic. That being said, if you are willing to bust your ***, have a good mechanical aptitude and are willing to listen & learn from the older techs you can go quite a ways. A lack of attitude is a must. Most dealerships will send you to training and Honda has a training facility in Dallas. There were some great dealerships when I was in Dallas, but there were some crap ones. Granted I`ve been back in California for 6 yrs, so things could have changed.
The other option is a school like MMI and you can learn quite a lot from there. However when you come out you will have the skills to be an entry level tech with a big student loan.
Another thing to consider is tools. You can`t make a dime without your tools. You can get a good start with a $1000 and a well planned trip to Sears. But that is only the beginning! The last inventory that I did for insurance in January was over $50,000 in tools.
I love my career and wouldn`t trade it for the world. I`m not rich, but I can pay my bills, have some fun & keep food in the fridge with a 16yr. old in the house.

i am maddi from pakistan.and joined honda from last 3 months .here in 3 months i hav very much learned about tunning of 20k,40,80 and 100k oddometer reading. i got experienced about brake service wheel balancing vehicle computer checking,changing clutch plate in manual transmission mounting and unmounting engine vey much about engine overhalling,power steering assemby and changing power steering pipe about rackets and replacing fuel filters of honda acord civic and city which are main honda models in pakistan.but thats not enough here no institute to to give traing for honda rechnician rather honda atlas cars pakistan fatory which is inlly an assebly line factory they traiined the workers with 5 different training which makes worker the master in vehcle proffessionaly but i worked in a dealer ship and due to politics only favourits are sent to factory.2ndly i attend 99 cars a month and makes a revenieu of 450k to 600k for my dealership bt in reward they give me a salary of 3k.which is just like they are aiding me.me moth****er dealership uses ti xploit their wirker and demand overtim in free.but i only working their to get experience their .can u tell me that how can i becom eexpert or how do i work on my job to get expert so that i may able to work on my own or any where. u better guide me bcoz i am lossing my interest in going their bcoz they want me in just free and i hav to earn money to fullfill my basic necessity.

I am a tech at a honda motorcycle dealership. We are keeping very busy I dunno about everyone in the south though. Some of the people I work with just got a job here and started working, got training on the job. I on the other hand went to a two year tech school and got my associates in recreational engine technologies. More debt that way though. When I was working at honda (cars) they offered to send me to a two year school for free, I would just have to work for them for a minimum of five years after that. That's another route.
