any compound you recommend?
3m Perfect-It Series Rubbing Compound (#06085) is hands down the best quality out there...
I detail paint at a ford dealership and use this frequently. It removes 1200 grade and finer scratches, and with proper tool technique will leave a glossy shine. Granted, you do pay for 3M quality - Runs for $50 a quart. If you care for your finish properly this should last you atleast 6 months, on towards a year... I go through a bottle a month or so. Remember, it is always better to take care when washing your car, and reduce the amount of times you compound, as you are actually removing mils of your clearcoat...
Also, i would highly suggest using the 3M Compounding pads, as i have found the quality is much better then other low cost alternatives, ie napa etc...
The formula is simple: Dewalt 849 + 3M Foam Compounding Pad + 3M #06085 = Sexy Gloss
PS: If you are striving for the best results this is my general process of a complete finish detail....
1500 Wet sand of entire vehicle ( Spot sanding will suffice if only tryin to remove clearcoat scratches, although sanding the entire vehicle effectively removes the "orange peel" [which is really noticeable from the factory] leaving a wet looking gloss)
2000 Wet Sand once again entire vehicle
Compounding using the 3M extra cut mentioned above. Also using the more abrasive white foam compounding pad usually at a slower speed around 1400rpm.
Changing pads to the 3M black foam polishing pad and once again goin over the vehicle this time with a Light Cut compound like the 3M swirl remover.

3m extra cut on a wool pad is my favy. than switch to a foam pad and i use machine glaze even though im not really supposed to(but i get ridiculous nice results so its alright). than hook it up with some finesse polish. than finish it off with foam pad polish, than some final glaze. and that equals ridiculous bling.
Word a wool pad and extra cut can do some serious work! The only problem i have reccomending using a wool pad is it is alot easier for a beginner to do some damage. Ive had to fix brand new 09 vehicles because of improper usage.
But, using a wool pad you can usually skip the whole wet sanding process all together as it is basically like 1200 grit sanding anyway! Just be wary if you are going to try the wool pad and an extra cut. Practice your technique and dont get carried away with excessive speed!

definitely agree. a wool pad will burn some **** up in a hurry. definitely stay away from the edges with a wool pad. A foam pad is alot more forgiving.
meguiars M105. its a little bit more than 30 but very well worth. I think I paid like 33 with tax. anyways, i have been detailing for 5 years now and I have tried just about every compound around. never have I had a compound work so quick with such great results. even with a foam pad I was able to remove 1200 grit sanding marks and leaving an lsp (last step product) finish. depending on the car, the finish was so perfect there was no need for a polish or glaze to remove the compound marks. good even for the hard german clearcoats. if you go over to autopia.org you will see many people preaching about 105.

dont know what you mean by HSSR, I never heard that terminology, but i used M105 on many newer model Audis, BMWs, and Mercedes (06-09). Anytime i was gonna detail a german car menzerna was my best bet, but now M105 is my best friend. Meguiras online sells a sample for like 12 dollars. give it a try, trust me, you will love it.
3m Perfect It 3 on a wool pad followed by another round on a maroon cutting pad, followed by a round of 3m swirl remover, followed by Ultrafina on a black pad.
That's my perfect wetsand and buff.

i tried system one and its alot of work compared to the 3M compund. what i could do in 30 min with 3M compound took me 2 hours with system one. this was on fresh urathane clear about 5 days old it just wouldnt bring it back like the 3M. system one sucks in my book never use at again. but it did work good on my plastic tail lights.
