Inconsistent Idle - Stall on acceleration
Hi everyone, new here, and first post.
Recently my daughter's '98 Accord overheated and the head warped. I replaced the head, but when I was finished it would to a rapid oscillation at idle speed from about 1100 to 1200. There was a CEL and I pulled a code P1509 for the IACV. I found the valve and saw that I had neglected to plug in. I corrected this fault, and the idle changed, but still wasn't ideal. Having seen a recommendation for cleaning the IACV, I proceeded to remove it, and flushed it out with some WD 40, since this was the only spray solvent I had available, then dried it out with an air hose. After reassembly, the idle seemed better, but low at about 850, and wandering a bit. However, when the throttle was applied, the rpm's wandered, surged and ebbed. When put into gear the car would not go. It stalled no matter how gradually I engaged the clutch. What have I screwed up? I'm thinking I may have damaged the metal gasket under whatever that cover on the manifold is called that the IACV is attached to. Would an air leak there cause the extreme symptoms that I'm getting?
Thanks,
Darrell

no cel?....take off the intake hose that goes to the throttle body...and then start up the car(when is cold)....there should be 2 holes inside the throttle body....before the butterfly.....one should be for your IAVC and the other one should be the FAST IDLE so if you cover one of them and the car shuts off then there is a problem in one of them....i dont remember which hole goes where but you can figure it out.....buy a carburator cleaner from walmart or brake cleaner for that IACV valve....it better....and from what i told you.....work your way around it.....
