nobody seems to comment or agree with me that its a rediculous feature in his car.

a google search only reveals some 4x4 forums talk about it as a bad idea.

That is the 2nd most retarded cage i've ever seen. Unless it is a show car only. NO sanctioning body should let that car see the track/course/whatever.
first place retard goest to the guy with the PVC cage

Personally I've never seen a cage made of aluminum in person; BUT I do know that Carbing makes a cage out aluminum similar to the one in the pics
that's fine, autopower makes cages too, doesn't mean they aren't junk. Aluminum is too soft of a metal to use as a structural component like a cage. It will mangle like no other
Aluminum structural components can be damn near as strong as steel components for a fraction of the weight IF properly welded AND then solution heat treated back to a T6. Juding by the fact that you probably can't remove that cage from the car completely assembled to get it heat treated... this = major fail. He has a death wish.

i've never seen aluminum used for a cage before. the biggest reason i see it being a problem is the lack of being able to tie it into other parts of the car other than where he has it. imo, a cage should be welded to the body of the car in as many places as possible, like the a and b pillars, the roof, everywhere! gussets ftw!
You guys have never seen the old race Porsches with aluminum Matter roll cages. Several old Porsches ran aluminum roll cages in the late sixties and early 70s. You can still see some of them racing today with the historic racing organizations.
If you start with 6061 T6, it will return to a T4 state after welding. What I have found is it will return to that state in about two weeks. While we may not agree with his material choice, if he used thick enough wall thickness and got his welds strong enough, he should be OK in a mild accident. I seriously doubt the car will be used for heavy track use. Besides most race organizations will not let him run with it anyway. I guess it will make a neat conversation piece.

Have you ever seen a NSX cage?
The cage in that rabbit is just for show he isn't going to track the car. He also said that the wall thickness is 3mm all around. Wiechers makes almost all their cages and roll bars in aluminum as well. They are not sanctioned obviously and people pretty much only use them for show.
this is kinda neat:

that's the frame of the car, not the cage. i know the z06 uses an aluminum frame, zr1 probably does too. GM use to weld all their frames but i have never looked close at the joints of a Z. still, the cages HAVE to be steel based to be approved.
The Z06 bird cage and everything is aluminum. It is welded and riveted.
