Default short shifter?

is there any way i could fit a 88 crx short shifter on an 87 crx? the one for the 87 crx its 100+ and the one for 88 its around 40. i heard the one for the 88 its slighly different and that you could sand it down just a lil til it fits. is it true?

Then 1988 and later shifter arm has a larger pivot ball than the 1987 and earlier Civic/CRX. Unless you have some way of smoothly shaving a couple of millimeters off of a sphere, do not expect it to work.

A machinist could do it. But then you're not saving any money.
