MY AC COMPRESSOR DIED. SO...WHAT DO I NEED BESIDES THE AIR COMPRESSOR? THE MECHANIC SAID THE CLUTCH ON THE COMPRESSOR WAS BAD. OK SO...

1) I CAN GET ONE ON THE HONDA JUNK YARD FOR $80
2) I BOUGHT THE F. DRIER AND THE TEMP EXPANSION
3) NOW WHAT? I INSTALL THE NEW (USED) COMPRESSOR PUMP. THEN TAKE IT TO THE LOCAL A/C SERVICE CENTER, THEY VACCUM, RECHARGE, AND I SHOULD BE OK, RIGHT?

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I WOULD NEED TO BUY BESIDES THE AC COMPRESSOR ITSELF?

 

whatever you took out, in this case the ac compressor, then you'll just the ac compressor along with freon of course. If your belt is bad, I'll replace that too. If the compressor doesn't come with the fan clutch, you'll need a new one.

 

What belt are you talking about? Im sorry but dont know much about cars. As far as I was told, all I need was the ac compressor pump, filter drier, and the temp expansion

 

the ac belt that is used to run the pump. As for all the other parts, I didn't replaced those, and it still blows cold, but if you doesn't have those components then you'll need them. I replaced an ac pump on my brothers 94 teg 2 years ago and still going strong.

 

So...the only thing I might need to buy is the ac compressor itself, and not anything else if everything looks fine?

 

If the clutch is bad you just need a clutch. that would be the ideal because you don't have to recover the refrigerant

 

I agree^^^ Unless your entire compressor went on you. If you just get the fan clutch and get it replaced it would be cheaper, as for all the other component, i think the guy that checked it out, just wanted you to spend more money.

 

Start the car. pop the hood. blast the a/c. If the clutch doesn't cycle you should check if it is stuck on or stuck off. If it's stuck on your mechanic was probably wrong. that would be the compressor clutch relay ($50). if it doesn't spin at all it's just a clutch. Have a shop do a pressure test to determine if you need a compressor. high side should be around 130 psi give or take

 

If the tech told you to get an expansion valve you're probably gettin ripped off. that's big labor time for him which translates to big money for you
