d4 bulb on 01 not the same as 98-99 help
ok,well i go to the dealer to get my last bulb (i hope) and there is a 73 yr old man with a bad d4 bulb in his 01 accord 4cyl trying to get a new bulb and they tell him they need to order the bulb and it will be $98 to replace it.
i said i have the bulb at home and didn't need it so he could have it,he then asked me if i could replace it too, yup,no problem will take me about 5 min. to do................WRONG.
although they look the same, once removed the circuit board was different, bulbs were different and there is no way i could figure out how to get to the p/n/r/d4 etc...bulbs.i removed everything but still could not get the board to come off.do you need to remove the needles from the fuel and temp gauge,or all guages to remove the board.
i feel like a tool not being able to help this guy and then to make things worse he starts to tell me his wife died 6 months ago and 2 months later his 43 year old son was diagnosed with cancer and died weeks later.now i feel like a used tool and want to help this guy out with what seems to be a simple problem so if anyone can give me advice on this replacement i would appreciate it.
thanks.

$98 to remove the cluster, replace the bulb and then re-install the cluster.
i removed it and on mine i have a row of bulbs with black bases that 1/8 turn in right there.just a twist and they come out.on the 01 the p/n/r/d4 etc... is a solid board, they seem to go in from the front rather than the rear.

For 6th-generation Accords, there are two different gauge cluster manufacturers depending on year and model - one is Ford (found in most V6 models from what I've seen), and the other is Nippon Seiki (more common in 4-cylinder models). Each one takes a different type of bulb for the PRND indicator tree.
so the question is how do you access the pnrd tree on the nippon seiki cluster.
i have the ford model wher all bulbs are easily (and repeatedly) replaced.lol
and on the same topic, somewhat, his fuel gauge was still a bit over 1/2 when out of the dash,i have a feeling that is not right?mine and other vehicles i own always return to "E" when off or no power.
oh and btw, thanks for the replies so far.
