APEXI is low-balling me! >:(
** EDIT **
Problem solved. Apexi wasn't low-balling me....I just got the measurements mixed up as to what they pertain to. They just sent me one wrong filter. The replacement items were correct.
My mistake!

The flange should attach to your existing piping using a band clamp. What exactly are you trying to do?
You need to measure the inner diameter of your existing pipe and the outer diameter of the flange. The "big" side of the flange bolts to the intake and the "little" side gets attached to the existing piping using a band clamp.
Apex'i products are top notch in quality and I have used them since 2000 for gauges, intakes, AVC-R, AFC, etc...customer service is awesome. This sounds like user error based on what you are describing here and what you show in the other thread here.
The inner diameter of the flange has NOTHING to do with the inner diameter of the filter
Don't know. I guess I thought for some reason the flange was supposed to go over the intake piping...like the other air filters do.
I saw some pics on 8thgen and wasn't sure. Didn't realize that the 80mm is for OD measurement and not ID. Apexi's website makes no mention of what the 80mm measurement pertains to. It just says 80mm under application. And all the other sites I look at just say Universal filter with 80mm flange. So I assumed that both the filter and flange were supposed to be 80mm ID.
So then the flange just sits against the edge of the piping held against it with the coupler??

The intake is threaded. The holes in the flange should line up to the threaded portions of the intake and screw/bolt on. The other part of the flange goes inside your existing intake piping and secures with a band clamp. However, band clamps are normally used when the outer "tube" is flexible (silicone, rubber, etc.) and the inner tube is metal (your flange).
Here, I made this in paint. It is basic, but it gives you an idea of how to install the intake/ flange.

While the pics and drawing are nice....I already knew how to put the flange, filter, and coupler together. The only part that kind of had me confused was how the flange does not go over the piping and instead sits against it via the coupler.
I thought with the added weight of the filter and flange combined that it might eventually wiggle loose from the engine/car vibrations.
Thanx for the concern and the help guys!
I installed it about 2 hours ago. Other than the limited space I had to work with everything pretty much went smoothly. Getting that coupler over the flange was a pain in the *** though.
Thanx again!
Love the drawing by the way...lol. The clamp is epic.

Because you're perfect and never do anything wrong right? Honestly..it was a mistake. I admitted it and even edited my original post. So shut ur f**king mouth and get over it. Kthx!
You to genius! I didn't see YOU explaining what I did wrong until solovus posted his explanation and diagram.
And the coupler sat in a car at 150 degrees pretty much all day while I was at work before I put it on. Doesn't get any warmer than that without using a heat gun which I don't have access to.
