Icon2 I need help with OBD2 GSR emissions!!!!

I was recently tagged for state ref cuz i had a cone filter on my stock intake arm. I go reff and my emissions are off the charts. i put in a new o2 sensor, bought a used obd2 cat and it still burns super rich. I was also told that the obd2 p72 ecu cant be chipped, but my vtec kicks in @4500......so does any1 know if theres any truth to that? i need to know wat i should change first........is it my ecu or should i jus get a brand new cat? and where can i get a brand new obd2 cat for a good price? any help would be much appreciated!!!

Thanx a milli!

What is it that you failed on? Nox, HC, Co2? Check to see if timing is right.

your cat converter is no good for sure! Nox I believe is because the temerature is in the combustion chamber is high. HC is because your running rich, and not enough fuel is getting burned. First change the cat, i would seafoam the car, change oil and run 91 octane before you go back. Seafoam will help with the NOx, oil change will help with HC, and 91 will help it burn throughly.

If you already did all that, and your still failing by thousands of ppm, its your cat converter. To replace it I've been told autozone carry them now, but they cost like $200+. Maybe you can get another cat, but hopefully it would still be good.

Maybe a carsound cat from egay or something? they are cheaper then the auto zone, but they aren't vehicle specific so some welding would most likely be needed

Are the valves adjusted?
Are you burning any oil (valve seals)?
What is your compression in all cylinders?

BTW: OBDII can be chipped. It is rare, difficult, and burn once.

could prolly get away with new valve guide seals. They are pretty cheap, but involves ripping the head down

Get another head and have it rebuilt, new valve job, new valve stem seals. Swap the head and install a new timing belt and water pump while you're at it. It's probably due for new ones anyways.

You could always just get another head, and put it in and get the other head rebuilt in the mean time.

If you could find a smog place uses the motto "no pass no pay" you'll be able to test out your emission before you go to state ref.
